This is kind of look very good. The home owner wants to put some crown molding up here, and I tell you why. It really dresses up a room. But I get a lot of letters and a lot of email from people who have trouble cutting crown molding. What a shame. It is really simple. It is just a matter of how you hold the crown molding in the miter box saw.
Now, let us talk regular door casings and window casings. Those trim, people seem to have no trouble holding in a miter box saw or cutting. Why is that? The reason why, those moldings fit flat on the wall surface, crown molding does not fit flat. Think about it. It tilts out in an angle. Well, that means you have to hold the crown molding in the miter box saw the same way it is on the wall for the cuts to be accurate.
Now, how do you do that? Well, think about this. A wall and a ceiling meet at a 90-degree angle. Well, guess what? Your miter box saw is made the same way. The flat surface is called the table. Think about that as your ceiling. And the vertical part the miter box saw, think of that as the wall. But guess what? It is upside down. That means you have to hold the crown molding in the saw upside down to get the right cut.
Look how the crown molding fits between the wall and the ceiling. There is this hollow spot. You have to create that same hollow spot on the miter box saw. I know what you are thinking.
