Hi, I am Mark Donovan from HomeAdditionPlus.com and today, I am going to show you how to install chin up bar in an unfinished basement.
Material for this chin up bar, I have two 2 x 10 cut to 15 ½ inches in length and I tapered off the edges and I have held 100 quarters hole in both of them. In addition to the 2 x 10s, I have a four foot 1 inch steel rod. I have three-inch bolts and three and a half inches long and number 16 bolts with associated washers and nuts, few screws to temporarily hold this up in place while we secure the bolts, and a few tire ups that we will use to make sure that the bar does not slide in the holes. For a tool for installing a chin up bar, we need a screw gun, some wood carpenters glue, a couple of drill bits to pre-drill the holes into the wood, a tape measure, hammer and a level.
First thing we have done is I have measured 20 inches of the sole play into the floor joints and I have done that in this floor joint and three floor joints over. Now what I do is take one of the sideboards and apply liberal amount of carpenter’s glue on the board. This will help insure that there is no movement on the board once it dries. Now that we have applied glue to the back of the sideboard and temporarily screwed in here into the floor joints before I install the bolts. This is temporary up until we get the bolts installed. We will do the other side now. Now that I have tucked up the second sideboard, I am going to drill three 3/8 inch holes for the bolts and I am going to slide through and attach these nuts on the other side. Okay now, I am just tightening up the nuts on the bolts that I put through the floor joints and to the sideboard of the chin up bar. So now these are tight, all that I have to do is test the chin bar itself.
Finally, to make sure that the bar does not slide outside of the sideboard brackets, I have attached tie wraps to both the outside edge of the pipe and the inside edge on both sides. You just tight it up and then snip it on so that these bars are not going anywhere. So that is it.
