Painting a traditional wall or a ceiling is an easy task. Nothing to it, you get the roller out, and just start going to town. If you want to get professional results, there are a couple of tricks you really need to know, and it is not hard to do.
Number one, you have to make sure that you put enough paint on the wall. When you open up the can, and you pour them in the roller pan, it is a liquid. Well, it transforms from liquid to a solid state. What happens? Typically, there is a lot of water in the paint that evaporates. Well, you have to account for that. Look at the label, it will tell you. A gallon of paint will cover only 300 to 500 sq. ft.]
Guess what? A lot of people put on paint, and they will cover a thousand square feet. In other words, they put too much on. Now that you know how much paint to put on the wall, you have to know how to put it on the wall. This is where many people make a mistake.
Typically, what will happen, I see many rookies just take the roller and kind of randomly go up and down the wall, and roll it up, and they think they are done. That is the problem. The way to do it is to actually start sideways, and put your paint on the wall sideways, and your finish strokes need to be vertical and you just go over the wall this way, holding the roller evenly, nice smooth strokes and when you finish rolling, lift the roller off the wall gently.
Another common defect that people have are what we call roller marks. That is where the rollers, the painting, they will put uneven pressure and create a mark on the wall like this. And it is because they had the roller tilted on the wall, make sure you always keep the roller pressure even, and you would not get marks like that.
Painting walls is really a synch if you just follow a few simple steps. Take your time, and nice easy strokes. That is all there is to it.
