Rebecca Breton: So you would like to try Feng Shui. Hi I am Rebecca Breton and welcome to watchmojo.com and today I am speaking with Feng Shui expert Tracey Mackenzie about the basics of Feng Shui. So firstly what is Feng Shui, how does it work?
Tracey Mackenzie: Well basically Feng Shui is a system an energy mapping system, okay. It was developed in ancient China and we have applied it today in order to be able to increase the energy in the home, to help harmonize the elements in order to make you healthy, happy and more successful.
Rebecca Breton: What aspect of life is Feng Shui suppose to effect?
Tracey Mackenzie: We increase your career potential, we increase your prosperity, love generally just about anything can be increased or harmonized.
Rebecca Breton: What the term Feng Shui translates to?
Tracey Mackenzie: Feng Shui literally translates to wind and water. So in ancient China, highly sought out place would be one that would be protected from the strong winds coming from the north and help water in the south. So that any house, the city or capital that in the geographical locations would benefit from the
Chi coming from the water.
Rebecca Breton: What's this I hear that Feng Shui was once used for grave's placement?
Tracey Mackenzie: Originally Feng Shui was developed in order to find the most ideal spot in order to burry some one because the Chinese believed that the prosperity of the descendants of that person depended on how well a location was chosen for the person that have died.
Rebecca Breton: What kind of training have you gone through and your consultants go through to become a Feng Shui expert?
Tracey Mackenzie: Well I studied with a master and I spent a lot of time practicing Feng Shui, its over 12 years now. If you are going to practice traditional Feng Shui, come to school of Feng Shui, you really need to study with the master, because the advanced ones of Feng Shui are actually very, very complicated. Its not a question of hang wind chime, hang a crystal and your life is going to be beautiful.
Rebecca Breton: So what are some of the basics of Feng Shui?
Tracey Mackenzie: For someone who just wants to start out on their own, they can get a very good book called The Complete Idiot's Guide to Feng Shui. It's a very, very good book and it talks about all the systems at the basic level you will use the Bagua. The Bagua is eight pieces of pie or eight trigrams. Each one corresponds to a direction and a life station.
So for example, the north corresponds to career, the south corresponds to fame. The southeast corresponds to prosperity. A lot of people use the nine square grid, the nine grid, because it's easier to divide your health into nine equal pieces versus the eight. But at the old school, I did so long ago that that time there was eight.
Rebecca Breton: Can you tell us a bit about how Feng Shui utilizes color?
Tracey Mackenzie: Well we often use color in Feng Shui in order to weaken an energy or in order to increase an energy. Same is associated with the color of red, so if we wanted to increase let's say the fame sector at the basic level which would be the south, we would add red object to this location of your home.
Rebecca Breton: You don't just have to repaint or something like this?
Tracey Mackenzie: No I mean obviously in the perfect world we would repaint. A good Feng Shui practitioner should be able to find a solution for you and use your own stuff to do it.
Rebecca Breton: Thank you very much.
Tracey Mackenzie: You are welcome.
