Hi my name is Austin Nammack. I own the second location of Country Club Kennels and training. Carla is my sister and today we’re teaching you some skills and basic training techniques for your dog. For this segment, we’re going to teach you how to introduce your dog to a child and more importantly how a child should behave and not behave when being introduced to a new dog. I'm going to use my daughter Christina for this segment and first I'm going to have her come in and act the wrong way. Christina, come in.
It’s a dolphin doodle, it’s very similar to a Labrador doodle.
Well you see, Christina came in, which is what I don’t want was with the arms raised up and a very excited voice, very jumpy which, you know, children are going to do. So you want to be careful with that and the correct way to do it, I'm going to have—I'm going to talk to Christina, we’re going to keep a little distance at first. Hi Christina, how are you doing? This is a labradoodle, his name is Archie. I'm going to have Archie have is own time, sniff Christina, check her out and meet her first. And Christina is just going to ignore the doggy for a second.
So Archie is very settled down, do not excite the dog at this moment, he’s very friendly to other people and dogs so he’s doing very well. Would you like to pet Archie? You may give him a treat. You need to make sure that they approach the dog in a calm manner, let the dog check them out first, let them sniff him first and get comfortable of the situation. As soon as the dog seems comfortable, then you can invite a stranger or your child to come and greet the dog.
That is how you would properly introduce your dog to a child.
