I am here in my tiny house where I love to come and spend. I am using Angora and Pygora fibers from animals I raised right here. If you have never spun before, be careful. What you are about to witness, may become addicted.
I am using a single treadle Ashford traditional spinning wheel. It is a great wheel to use if you are a beginner. You can buy one for around $400.00.
Interested learning how to spin? Why not take a class? It is a great way to learn and meeting new people.
When you use hand spun fibers, you are no longer just a knitter, you are a fiber artist.
First, I begin by spinning the wheel clockwise. As I spin, I want to drop the fiber as thin as possible. Once I filled two bobbins, I placed them on the lazy kate so I can ply the together. I use the spinning wheel counter clockwise and twist the two strands together.
I wanted to learn how to spin for along time. And the first time I sat down in front of the spinning wheel, I was horrible. What I was doing did not even resemble yarn, but I did not let that stop me. I kept on practicing and the day I had a bobbins worth of usable yarn was amazing because now, I can make my own garments with my own handspun yarn.
I am Patti the Garden Girl and thanks for watching!
