Well for eight years, I gave a puppet show every Sunday morning and every Wednesday night after school and the children if I brought one or two puppets, two times in a row they would say “We saw that one last time.” And so that will get my heart strings and so I would work every week on a new show and a new puppet or two. And that is one the reason why I had so many things that have to do the different voices because I had all this pressure on me. Well, later on I started doing a few programs at different churches and some schools assemblies and I was not satisfied with the puppets that I had. I originally found some rubber headed puppets in a toy store and I painted them. And like this one, these are 20, almost 20 years old or this one.
And so I continually was looking for something new. I think that it is human nature. You know, not only for looking something but collecting things because still I just before we started the filming to I was looking through the books on all new puppets so I have got nearly a hundred and I was looking how to make new ones, I guess you never satisfied you want to make everything better improved or something different. And the same thing with collecting things I have collected all of these and the same thing with collecting things. I have collected all of these puppets and props and castings through the years like people collect tea cups or some pepper shakers and the different hobbies that people have. When I am practical, I want to have something that I can use.
Well, with the rubber headed puppets. I had a lot of them and then one day, I saw an ad and a magazine which I looked through all the time, I am a professional shopper I will tell you continuously. And I wrote and got a book on how to make puppets. Well it was very, very, very hard. Very hard! And this is my first puppet. I put the mouth in backwards it took me off a long time to make it and I said to myself, if I ever learn to make puppets. I am going to teach anybody that wants to know. It was like when I was young and I learned in college. I learned the ukulele from my roommate that is what it was my roommate had a ukulele and she would show me where to put my fingers. And I wanted to play that so badly. And so I said to my self if I ever learn to play the ukulele or any musical instrument then I am going to teach everybody that wants to learn and in that one time I had a 60 children in a retiree clinic they called that I had when I was a school teacher.
Well that was the first one and then I started that was first granny so many years ago and I will be showing how we made her and one of the later program in this series and then this was the second granny that I made. And I had made my puppets over, all four, five times some of them. And here is the first this big set that I had. And I just take a quick look. I will be showing the different puppets to you in the series later on. But I had really enjoyed these puppets. Well, the next set then that I will going to teach you to make besides this foam cloth puppets that I am showing you here. Was soft sculpture puppets and I was very, very pleased with them.
