Inwood NY Real Estate Guide
Jason Sheftell: This Jason Sheftell of the New York Daily news in Inwood, Manhattan’s northernmost neighborhood. Right now, this neighborhood is seeing a lot of activity on the sales of rental side because of tremendous value. It’s also a tale of two cities up here. The west side of Broadway they’re known for its art deck of buildings, parks and coop’s. It’s kind of like the upper west side, with the east side of Broadway is hot a like Loury side used to be about 20 years ago.
The very heavily influence Latino and Hispanic culture up and down 207 streets almost all the way to the Bronx with the East River and West River not being far from here at all. Today, we’re going to talk to people about this very changing neighborhood.
Michael Moore: With the picture we saw it seems pretty big so we came and check it out.
Jason Sheftell: And you pay about $1150.00 for big one bedroom.
Michael Moore: $1158.00, it is huge.
Jason Sheftell: What’s the neighborhood like so far?
Michael Moore: Well, it’s a little noisy, a lot of music playing and during the summer time there a lot of kids out I guess because it’s nice, it’s okay but it’s too noisy for my taste.
Jason Sheftell: How about rentals and self, how is it? Has the price gone up lately or down? What’s happening in rents or lots?
Frank Diaz: The prices are going up because people in other upland areas are moving in because the rents for them are a little bit more affordable here but for the people who have been living here like myself it’s a little bit going up.
Jason Sheftell: What are the neighbors that you looked in before you came here?
Karen Koons: We were looking in Brooklyn a little bit and then we decided to move up here, heights and heights also and then we decided Inwood.
Jason Sheftell: What was the deciding factor in Inwood?
Karen Koons: I think the parks and the costs and the size of the apartments and then it is a really nice community to raise children, I think.
Jason Sheftell: Why did stay Inwood all these years?
Frank Arden: I don’t drive a car.
Jason Sheftell: So everything is convenient, easy to figure out?
Frank Arden: Yes.
Jason Sheftell: What’s your favorite thing about the neighborhood?
Frank Arden: Parks.
Jason Sheftell: What’s the worst thing about the neighborhood?
Frank Arden: Noise.
Jason Sheftell: Is that controllable at this point or does it get better?
Frank Arden: It’s gotten better. It used to be completely insane.
Jason Sheftell: Well, you just heard it from the people who live here. Prices also reflect the differences between the east and west side of Broadway. On the east side prices go for $1100.00 for one bedroom. On the west side you go for 1300.00 or 1400.00. You can’t really buy in the east side as there are condos and coops. Most of those are on the west side. Prices we got $300,000.00 for a big one bedroom, $440,000.00 or $450,000.00 for two bedroom and $650,000.00 will get you a gigantic three or four bedroom. That’s what kind of value you’ll get when you live in Inwood.
