Welcome to Common Man Cocktails, I am your host Derrick Schommer, today we’re hot coffee recipe believe it’s Friday, and for that we’re going to do the Irish Coffee.
Irish Coffee, where you are using some Michael Collins Irish Whisky, a blend, we’re using coffee and for those that criticize my weak coffee because it’s not dark enough, your opinions and stuff, sorry I have my coffee recipe which is just filter coffee and it comes out, that’s my drink.
Well, here is our little whip cream again, and brown sugar, that’s the secret ingredient, I don’t think we’ve said that since Episode 7. The secret ingredient really is just a brown sugar, we’re going to do o0ne and half ounces of Irish Whisky, we’re going to do a teaspoon of brown sugar, whip cream and coffee. And what we’re going to do is stir, we’re going to put the brown sugar in, we’re going to put the coffee and we’re going to stir it. That’s the official recipe ingredients. And I don’t know if this is a teaspoon so I’ll do a little extra just to really as sweeten the drink. So then, we’ll pour in the coffee and you’re going to leave a little room so that you can actually put the Irish Whisky in there. And you want to have your garnish so you got that. That should do.
And I don’t know, it’s just, it’s just too light for people. That’s why I like it. It’s not black but it’s also—this is for those in New England, this is Dunkin Donuts coffee and it’s a New England thing. It’s like Starbucks but anything like Starbucks, it’s definitely more light. It’s not dark roast. Some people think it’s the best thing on earth. And so then what we’re going to do is add an ounce and a half of our Irish Whisky, just want it clean—not even close. All right Irish Whisky, an ounce and a half right here. Oh, it’s got a nice control spout, I love those things. They make pouring so much easier. It’s like perfect.
So this, were not going to stir, we’re just going to pour it in, as the recipe says, a little more, there we go, done. And now we’re going top with our whip cream and hopefully not make too much of a mess. Now you could use also, you can layer it with heavy cream, if that’s how you roll. Pour any type of cream. So when I go to a restaurant, they always put whip cream on top. I guess that’s the style, so you can see, it kind of sits right on top, a little bit, it floats down. But it looks like a restaurant style quality right there, right? Throw a little nutmeg right there maybe.
Whoa, that first sip is killer. Oh, I’m going to do that again, that was freaking. So it’s potent but, not on the alcohol—no, alcohol. It comes at the end. So you’re getting like an oaky, you got that nutty coffee. We’re going to take it a different way. We’re going to go to oaky coffee, you got that smooth whisky flavor, just to get the blend so it’s really well balanced, not too much of any specific whisky type of thing. Not too smoky, not too oaky, nice smooth blend so you kind of get that on the left side. But on the right, you get the coffee planked together and the worth which really my opinion changes the cocktail because you get a nice, frozen cocktail, blended, you have a cold cocktail, and you have a warm cocktail and it seems to change the way the ingredients tastes in your tongue. So you’re going to get a little sharper whisky taste. But the alcohol comes at the end. And there is a little sweetness. And I think the brown sugar kind of mix, it’s almost like the agave versus honey both of them are sweet but in a different way. The brown sugar are both as sweet as sugar but it’s a little different which gives it more a classic Irishness to it I guess, I don’t know, but there you go. That is your Irish Coffee, warm cocktail beverage for Friday. I am your host Derrick Schommer.
