Irish Fiddle Lessons - Smash the Windows

Hi. I’m Ian Walsh with onlinelessonvideos.com. Today, we’re going to learn an Irish Hop Jig called “Smash the Windows” in the key of D major. Here’s the sample of it. [Demo] So we start this tune off on the open A and we move over to the open D like that and here are the first couple of notes. [Demo] Once you have that we’ll move in to this descending pattern. Basically, a G, a D and an A and before we do we’ll just take a look at some of the double stops that we can use if we want to. So, the first one will be a G and a B, the second one we’ll use an F sharp and A on the third one we’ll use an E and an A, so all three of those together. [Demo] So if you’re really familiar with this, you can play the notes with then on pretty simply. [Demo] That’s’ just an F, a G, an F and an E. [Demo] And that puts you about halfway through the first part. You can use those double stops as just double stops if you want to or you can play the notes. I’ll play with two different ways for you here. [Demo] So, two very acceptable ways to play the first part of “Smash the Windows” here. Let’s learn the rest of the first part.
