Host: If a child was on formula, how long should the kid stay on the formula?
Abraham Jelin: For a year.
Host: Okay, good role is, if we you are going to use cows milk, it's designed for a baby cow, and that's a human child, so it makes no sense to something that can match breast milk, not cows milk. Is that correct?
Abraham Jelin: That's correct. The other important aspect of the formulas, is that the formula has a added iron, and kids needs to ingest the certain amount of iron in the first year of life, and infant formula is an excellent way to do that.
Host: A very famous pediatrician at John Hopkins, that was pushing iron on anybody, he had actually showed that the beginning that anemic the first year, he had a lower IQ potential than a kid had who took iron the first year.
Abraham Jelin: In fact, you don't have to become anemic, to have intellectual delay or based on iron deficiency. In addition, iron deficient kids tend to absorb lead better. Consequently, you have a dual problem of iron deficiency and lead intoxication, both of which can effect intellectual development.
