Is Dating a Younger Man OK

Dan: Today on Ask Dan and Jennifer, being young and age difference. This is an interesting one. Small age differences when you're young. I'm 17, I have recently developed a crush on someone younger than me. He's about 15, it sounds really bad when I think about it, but he doesn’t look 14 or 15 at all. It’s not a serious crush, but I like him enough to want to talk to him. He seems to act like he likes me, but I don’t really know if he does. Is it okay to date him even if he's that young? Jennifer: Well, that’s a tough question. Dan: Talk about loaded question. Jennifer: You know, age doesn’t matter once you get older. If you're 27 and he’s 25, no big deal. If you're 50 and he's 48, even less of a deal. But when you're talking 15 and 17, that’s a big deal. Because there's so much growth emotionally, mentally, physically, going on constantly. I mean, there's a big difference between 15 and 17. Dan: That’s the percentage we like. Jennifer: But, if it was just dating and hanging out together. Give it a try. You want to start talking about sex and things like that, I would definitely hold off, because I don’t know what the laws are where you live and that's just too young anyway. For our personal opinion by the way. I can't tell you what's too young or not. But it’s just that people have been known, they’ve been misusing all this sex, porn, not porn, but laws against kids. Sex thing, that they're polluting kids for sending naked pictures of themselves to their boyfriends. Dan: We have laws made to protect kids from adult predators and some people are, in our opinion very grossly wrongly misusing these laws to persecute kids. Jennifer: So just be careful, okay. Especially because you're 17, how close are you to 18 and things like that. You can really get yourself into trouble if you're not careful. Oh, question. Dan: Oh yeah, that was my card.
