Speaker: Why does dating seem more difficult for women over 40? Gloria MacDonald: It seems more difficult if you are a woman over 40 because frankly it is. Again, when we were in our teens and twenties, the numbers were about even. In fact, at some points there were slightly more males then there were females; but the time you hit forty, from the age of 40 to 49 there are 12 single females for every ten single males in North America. From the age of 50 to 59, there are 15 single females for every 10 single males and from the age of 60 to 69 there are 25 single females for every 10 single males. So just from the sheer statistics, it is a lot more difficult and then we had all the levels of complexity that dating over 40 has, which we talked about in the previous section, and you know what it just is more difficult. There no ifs, ands or buts about it.
