A groomzilla is bridezilla in a tuxedo. He is the biggest, worst beast in the wedding jungle. A groomzilla is a super stressed out furious “Type A” groom but he can also be a typical average guy who has just got swept into the wedding mania.
A bridezilla states approach the wedding like, “This is my day, I want to be a princess from a fairy tale” while groomzilla’s don’t want them either. Groomzilla’s want to be gods.
You see this reception hall, that’s right can you tap this you get that groomzillas.
Men are starting to take ownership of something’s that they traditionally have kind of left alone. A lot of wedding magazines are sighting that as many as 80% to 85% of grooms are now full planning partners in their own weddings.
One of the first things that happened to me when I’m planning for my wedding that was really an eye opener was I became unreasonably obsessed with my wedding time. I’m noticing every tie in Manhattan as I walk around like some sort of spider sense you know. I even stopped a guy once and I asked him where he got his tie and unfortunately he said Paris so that didn’t help me out. I bought every tie that I thought was a possibility. Now, I didn’t take back all the ones I didn’t use but still who was that guy?
The best thing to do for the bride is of course to give him all the stuff that you don’t want to do. This is what I call the home monitor strategy you know, where he take some little chore, whatever it is, you know and really builds it up. You can get them to do almost anything with right amount of praise if he has a better mind for numbers maybe he can be in charge of the budget.
A lot of brides will give their grooms the project of the bar not the receptions so he can put his favorite beers on top or calling all his favorite single mono scotches. If he’s a really technical guy he’s got a little aptitude for computers and things like that. Maybe he can take on put in together really cool slide montage and an event this big there is plenty of wedding planning for everybody.
The bride needs to create space for their fact that this is his day too. A wedding is a recognition of two people coming together and wanting to commit their lives with each other and even a better old recovering groomzilla like myself can recognize that.
