Female: First things first, how was your wedding day and were you nervous?
Julia Boggio: I think we were very nervous. We weren’t nervous about getting married, we weren’t nervous about giving speeches. We were nervous about doing the first dance.
James Derbyshire: No, absolutely! I mean when you run up to most weddings you’re worried if you get the speech is wrong. You’re worried about if ones going to get there on time, all I could worry about was that it gets sliding down the stairs on my entry.
Female: And whether you’re going to drop your bride as well?
James Derbyshire: Well you know I hadn’t been a help there.
Female: And more about to eliminate, the other thing I want to know is how did you get the idea?
Julia Boggio: Well, the whole wedding was actually movie themed, so it was really the only way that we could actually and I think aside from possibly doing something from Greece, but yet it was my idea.
James Derbyshire: Absolutely, there’s no way I want to take take light jumps from the day.
Female: And your must be a big fans of the movie Dirty Dancing?
Julia Boggio: Oh huge.
James Derbyshire: No, not at all. I’ve been fooled to watch the movie by every girlfriend I’ve ever had since I was about 14 and Julia made me more I think about two or three times and then decided that we we’re going to do this dance. I then subsequently watch that dance about 15, 20 times before wedding, so I’m fan now just by the fact that I’ve been hypnotized by it.
Female: And how did you go about—do you get in a routine together? Did you get help from adults to teach you or did you do it yourselves?
Julia Boggio: Yeah, one of our good friends is a professional choreographer so I called them up and I said “Hey Stewart, do you think that you could do this for us” and he said “Yeah, no problem.”
Female: Who’s idea, who wants to put it on the internet?
Julia Boggio: That was me again. I seemed to be having all the ideas here but I have a lot of friends and family back in America and even though we’ve gotten married almost two years ago, they were asking me to see the dance and we just, oh let’s put it on YouTube. We’d seen that thriller dance on YouTube as well, so let’s take it up.
James Derbyshire: Interesting thing as well because we didn’t expect lots of people is going to see it.
Female: Well, here is my next question. It got reported million hits. How did that happen?
James Derbyshire: Actually we checked this morning and it’s 1.2 million and it was only couple of weeks ago that was about a million and it’s interesting every time someone hears about it and whether it’s in the newspaper or on a TV program or something people search to the internet to go and see it.
Female: So do you two get recognized now walking down the streets?
James Derbyshire: Yes.
Julia Boggio: Yeah.
James Derbyshire: All the time.
Julia Boggio: Actually on the airplane, flying from Australia over to Bangkok recently. There is this woman who comes up and goes “I love your dance” and I said, “thank you.”
James Derbyshire: Absolutely and so we have affairs to this week during the interview, and a lot of people kind of looking at us. I don’t think anything over it and then one of the girl just came right at us and “Oh my god I’ve just got to tell, I think your fabulous its great” and then she comes cuddled off really embarrass.
Female: This is amazing. I mean do you have any plans to do any more dance routines?
Julia Boggio: Oh yes, definitely. We’re actually talking to our friends who choreographed this dance for us and I think we got a few plans.
James Derbyshire: We found a lot of people coming to us asking for advice on what to do for their weddings.
Female: Exactly and what is your advice to other couples for that first dance because now we see a lot of people might be as confident as you two.
Julia Boggio: Well I think the advice is to just think out of the box. Do something different. They’ll spend hours agonizing on what color, flower should be. What color the bridesmaid should wear and then all this little details and then by the time they get to the first dance like “oh, let’s just shuffle around to whatever” but that’s the part where you should probably be thinking most about what you’re going to do because you’re entertaining your guest. It’s like being on stage and it’s like everyone’s worst nightmare to go on stage and not know what your lines are so—
Female: And what do you think of the result of our first dance survey that the most popular song of that first dance is Whitney Houston, I will always love you?
James Derbyshire: It’s a beautiful song and all the songs in the poll are wonderful.
Female: You can do that too you know.
James Derbyshire: But it’s quite obvious. I mean the rule about love and they’re all about romance and that’s great because that’s for the wedding day is all about. But you can make the wedding day, in fact your whole marriage is personal as you like and I think as you have said it’s good to think about it. The people expect to do a traditional wedding, well why do we do something little untraditional. Choose something from a movie. It doesn’t have to be familiar, it can be from musical. It could be from anything you want for the first dance.
Female: Well you’ve been married for little well now but I hear you’re having just beyond that things. How was your honeymoon?.
Julia Boggio: It’s fantastic, it’s really good. We went to Hong Kong and Australia and Thailand and we actually did some television interviews in Sydney while we were there as well.
James Derbyshire: Absolutely. Channel seven discovered that we were in Sydney which was historical then followed by a film crew all the way back to Polack where we staying. So we can’t really get away from it but it’s a lovely honeymoon.
