Jane's Journey - Jane Goodall Documentary Film
Better
Audra Lowe: You might say that she’s one of the original conservationists. Jane
Goodall’s passion about wildlife has lasted more than 50 years. Now the
world re-knowned anthropologist is the subject of a new documentary
appropriately titled Jane’s Journey. Lauren caught up with the busy and
very private Jane Goodall at the Hampton’s Film Festival.
Lauren Ezersky: I am absolutely thrilled to be sitting with Jane Goodall
anthropologist for 50 years and then some. I am amazed can I go like this.
Jane Goodall: You can.
Lauren: I mean you’re like so advance, animal rights, and chimpanzee’s a good
way above away before everybody else what moved you so much about
these animals.
Jane: I was lucky. I wanted when I was a child I wanted to grow up, go to
Africa, live with animals and right books about them. That was my dream.
I wouldn’t have aspired to Chimpanzee’s because they were so kind of
you know I mean special so like us anyway eventually saved up my
money and got to Africa and it was meeting the late Louis Leakey. He
gave me this opportunity so that’s how it all got down.
Lauren: So now after all this you’re a movie star now so you have a new movie
coming out Jane’s Journey which is the story of your life how did that
come about.
Jane: I don’t think it makes me a movie star.
Lauren: Oh come on you’re a movie star if I say so. Come on.
Jane: It’s a documentary film. It came about because I met Lorenz Knaauer the
director I meat him 20 years ago and we met again and he became very
passionate about this film and it took 6 years to get the money together
and basically 2 years for filming and another year for editing.
Lauren: I know that your legacy that you tell people is roots and shoots so keep
telling me a little bit about that organization and how you wanted the
people where.
Jane: Well you know I could kill myself trying to save chimpanzees and their
rainforest and you know it’s just such a huge job and when you think
about the problems we’ve inflicted on this planet is its shocking actually
and so what’s the point of my struggling away if we’re not raising new
generations to be better stewards than we would be.
Lauren: I think people really thinking about the environment way more now than
we for saw it am I right or what do you think?
Jane: Well people are more aware of the problems so therefore some people
have adjusted their behavior to try and make a difference and routine too
is all about the fact that every one of us makes a difference every day.
Lauren: So what keeps you going, what keeps your energy.
Jane: Partly it’s because I’m very passionate about wildlife. Partly because I
have grand children and when I think how we found the planets since I
was their age I feel the sense of desperation.
Lauren: I think you’re amazing.
Jane: Well keep worshipping.
Lauren: Keep doing what you’re doing and you know teach the younger
generations thank you for joining me on Better Jane Goodall I’m Lauren
Ezersky and thank you.
Audra: She’s definitely an incredible lady thanks a lot Lauren and to get involved
in conservation in your community and around the world you can check
