This is basically the position you want to be in and you want to have your index finger on the twelfth right on the B string and at the same time, you want to have your third finger on the fourteenth fret on the A string.

Here it’s an octave.

Now what I want you to do is I want you to pick both of those notes simultaneously. So what I’m doing, it’s going to sound like this. I want to hear the other strings ringing out because that would not be what I’m looking to feel here so what I’m going to do is I’m going to hit these two strings together. By the way, I’m holding the pick now as I’m just hitting the pick.
As I’m hitting down with the pick I’m plucking up, see I’m holding the pick and I’m plucking down on the A string. I’m plucking up simultaneously on the B string with my second finger. So what would I use that for? Well.
I can follow the scale down. Let’s take this third finger out of the equation right now. Remember there are only a couple frets spacing between your index finger and your third finger so if I hold that position and I slide around the finger board I can do a scale.

You can also slide around.

That’s terrific. Let’s hear it with a little bit of music.

That is easy and you can do it. And on that note I want to share something else with you. I was teaching a good friend’s son how to play guitar. I gave him a couple of lessons and all of the sudden he’s just tearing it up all over the fret board and I decided I want to share that with my YouTube viewers.
So what I decided to do is put together a ten minute blues boot camp for you guys and you can go to it and easily check it out and download it by going to guitarband.dvd.org and just sign in and you will be able to get this ten minute blues boot camp that will make it. So the next time you go to your next jam or band rehearsal, people will definitely say, “Hey, that’s really cool! Where did you get those riffs?” So here are a couple of my favorite tricks there and I hope you’ll take advantage of it. Okay, have a great day. Thanks. Bye.
