I always loved jewelry and sort of playing with mother’s jewelry box when I was a child. And I hadn’t actually thought of being a jewelry designer because when I was quite young I thought I might be a fashion designer. Anyway, I went to art school and when you go to art, first of all you have to does years foundation course where you go around over different departments to decide what your best at. And ones I hit the jewelry work that was it, there was no going back. I absolutely loved it, then ones I left centers at Martin School of Art after finishing my degree in jewelry design. I setup my own business and the rest is history. I think my signature is more than classic, I love things that are classic with the modern twist, I think its very important when somebody comes to buy and engagement ring and a wedding ring that they don’t buy something too contemporary because I think that things date very quickly. And I think there’s nothing worst than seeing something which looks very 90’s or very 80’s or you know.
Well the current range is obviously diamond based because diamonds—even though we do actually work with colored precious stones and even so many precious stones that people want. Diamonds are still the most popular and obviously, cliché or not they are a girl’s best friend. And quite a lot of sparkled to be honest, girl love sparkle factor can’t get enough of it and I think its lovely when you’ve got a ring that you looked down at it and it sparkles at you. In the design world as a whole, I think certain shapes at popular at certain times. And I think that we are in a sort of square rectangular phase at the moment. I think round will always be popular but I think that the square just has a bit of an edge at the moment.
My Chloe engagement and wedding are probably are most popular set. They are set with princess cut diamonds, which are square diamonds with lots of brilliant cut faceting, they're very sparkly, they square so they’ve got a contemporary looked to them but they're very classic. I actually love the Jody engagement and wedding ring combination, they are an offshoot of the Chloe design I think because I love emerald cut diamonds. I love they're iciness, I love they're purity, I absolutely when you look at them.
The baby ring is actually my idea its been incredibly popular its supposed to be given to a women when she has given birth to a child. It produced in either 18 karats yellow gold, white gold or platinum. Its set with either a pink diamond if you’ve had a girl or a blue diamond if you’ve had a boy and varying amounts of white diamonds around the bond. They're very popular, you can ware them next to a wedding bond, you can now wear them as a wedding ring, you can wear them as an eternity ring or just as a celebration of the birth of your child.
Lots of the diamonds are channel set which means that they have a small piece of platinum or gold at the sides holding the stones in, it’s a very smooth type of setting and it actually works really well for today’s life style. You know we all need such active busy physical lives almost that we need something that is going withstand that and channel setting is very good to be able to deal with knocks and bumps that we give our rings.
Having said that I love diamonds, I do also love precious stones and my Chloe ring can be set with different colored precious stones. And in fact I have a pretty and pink Chloe ring which has a center pink sapphire which is absolutely gorgeous and its called the rose engagement ring and I have a blue version as well which has a beautiful cornflower blue sapphire in it. You can have the traditional royal blue sapphire if you prefer but I think the cornflower blue is really stunning.
I think it’s important to say that even though I am of this spoke jewelry designer we work with more or less any budget. And obviously in this times people are watching what they're spending and although it’s a very important purchase I realized that everybody has a limit and so it’s always worth calling me and asking me if I could work within a budget because I'm sure the answer would be, yes.
