Shalom! This is the second in the series of books you should have in your Jewish library. I recommend it in the first series that you get the book by Rabbi Isaac Kline. That may be a little too complicated or detailed for some people, so another book that is just terrific is called The Complete Book of Jewish Observance by Rabbi Leo Trepp, a practical manual for the modern Jew and it has got really terrific subjects. The celebrations of the year and Kashrut, Shabbat, prayer, all the holidays, the life cycle, really a terrific book to have in your house, to refer to. And Then, I highly recommended, two books by Rabbi Leo Jacobs. The first is called The Book of Jewish Belief. These are Burman House Publishers, or at Amazon, I suppose. And it really has just a terrific few pages on many issues, what is Judaism, belief in God, Torah, Mitzvot, chosen people, the Bible, mysticism, Kashrut, Holy Cross, Israel, marriage, life after death, just a terrific book, the book of Jewish belief.
And the third that I would recommend, is also by Rabbi Louis Jacobs called The book of Jewish Practice and it is a very good guide to many issues of Jewish life, belief in action, charity, ethical standards, birth, honoring parents, plus lots and lots and lots of practical ideas about practice of Judaism.
Now, I am just going to show you library books, obviously many books that one can get, the books on the far side there is the Talmud, below that is Codes of Jewish Law, the Mishna, and then lots more books over here. These are just some of the books that you can get to fill your library but these are very good starter books that people should have.
Finally, I would recommend definitely a one volume to start with, addition of The Mishna of Torah by Maimonides. You can get a one volume edition of Torah, one volume reader that really is excellent and that would be very helpful to have in your home to read the brilliant work kind of clarification of Jewish Law by him. Anyway, just some suggestions, building your Jewish library video 2.
