Jewish Superstitions Evil, Too Too Too
Shalom, this video is about Superstitions and Judaism. First of all we had count by 18, now this is not really superstition and has more to do with Gematria, but some Jewish treated like a Superstition. So, Jewish will often do things in 18s, 18, 36, 54, 72, 90, 108, 180, and that is because as you watch my video in Gematria, every Hebrew letter has a numerical coefficient. The letter of high, cot Yod, cot is eight; Yod is 10 that is 18. And therefore we lift up a couple of line we say lahayam to life.
So, there is a feeling that if you do things by 18 it is sort of superstitions. You are enhancing any proponent of the quality of life. Some people even wear the letters high as in a bracelet around there nicks others quickly show you with that light. The letters are very simple, you can see. This is the – this one is the Cot, this one is the Yod, eight and 10.
Okay, so that is what, now what is some of the other kind of superstitions? First of all among the ultra orthodox and specially the Chasidim, there is a custom of not counting boy’s hair until they are three years old. Now, they might tell you as my relatives dead. It is because of the source on top of the head but the real reason is superstitions. There is supposedly this angel running around looking to here little Jewish baby boys and he disguised them as a girls until they are three then it will be susceptible anymore.
And a big someone if want recap the first fare called krushari. Then the 120, when Moses leaved into a 120. So, there is old classic joke about the fellow testified him court and the judge said How old are you? And he said to 120 maybe nine and the judge said No! How old are you? 120 maybe nine and the judge said you have to answer exactly and some old Jewish guy in the back said Let me ask him, and need if you said until a 120, How old are you? And we answered 89.
So, it going to be like tempting the evil eye or a wish of a prayer to leave to a 120, sometimes you will see when Jewish are ask your questions, they will go too, too, too and even spit. That is the keep away the iyem jiru, the evil eye, which is a concept that it has been rabbinic literature of the bad force out there, trying to hurt you. So if you say that somebody how many grandchildren do you have? They may 2229 like keep away the evil eye or not nine, the opposite of what you wanted to say. And the bible has a several stories were God does not like counting people, and I think that is a very variable ethical lesion today when people are know by the there phone number, as so as security numbers, bank account numbers, tax IDs, which be human beings. And so when we were counting for a holy minion a Karem of 10 in which we can pray. We do not like to go one to the 456, for example you could used a blessing. The blessing for bread Hamoti has 10 words, [Foreign Language].
So if you give every person one holy word like that, when you get to the end of a blessing you know you have a minion or some people count na one, na two, and na three same idea. Also, this is custom of not giving the name out of a child before there covenant exactly before the ending ceremony before the Bris. They may have a little superstitions element 202 and Jewish traditionally did not have baby showers, because in a God for bit something she go wrong before the baby is born. You do not want tempt fade or the evil eye or you may hurt the—the couple might be more heard of evil house for the baby things as that one of the old customs. And other custom was if there for a bar meds for example in only give to father the Elijah right before the son.
Now, I do not believe and a thing of very nice thing to do we get the family up there together, but again that was base on your idea of not attempting the evil eye. This bad fore out that they might see the good fortune of father and son right her wonderful, because also a superstition about pregnant women not visiting the cemetery. Probably once in history some pregnant women went to the cemetery and suddenly miscarriage them, so that is all the tradition got started but there is nothing to it.
And then there is some kind of superstitions where there is massacre in Israel from Preston in Terrace in early 70s so from famous story about a Rabbi sing well, it is because the Mosses on the door has not been check. That is just ridiculous. God does not let terrorist vied places to kill people because the Mosses are in check or similar story about the felly napping checked and those are just weird superstitions. And then there was some kind of customs that are sort of superstitions, one custom is counting of the end of a roost and the people give all of explanations for the probably was that with that somebody’s grandmother had a part that was pen that was too short for the roost and have to curve up the end.
There was custom of doing that for when you make a Nhala, it goes way back. Anyway, those were someone of the Jewish superstitions to understand kind of Jewish behavior you may see of course other culture or other superstitions all that someone to main Jewish.
