The mitzvah for travel. Traveling is hazardous, it is uncomfortable, it is fun, but you get in car, thousands of people die in car accidents or injured. Plain travels are hassle. People love to travel but it is a big hassle. And we want to be safe.
There is actually a low ancient Jewish prayer for safety for travel, here it is. I will do it in Hebrew and then in English. You can usually find it on or you can goggle traveler’s prayer and say it before you go on journey. And then after get back from the big journey, there is another prayer at the Torah called (foreign language), the same when you do after surgery, you return safely. So here is the traveler’s prayer, (foreign language). It goes back 2000 years in the Babylonian in Tomad, they tracked on blessings.
So in English maybe your well, Adenoi, my God and God of my ancestors to lead me, to direct my steps, to support me, and change the English to your family and all along the way, lead me through out my life, tranquil and serene until I arrive where I am going. Deliver me from every enemy, conflict and hurt that I might encounter along the way from all painful afflictions that travel the world. Bless all that I do, let me receive your Devine grace and mercy. Let me also be the recipient of the loving acts of kindness of all those I need. Listen to the voice of my appeal for you are a God who responds to please and prayers. Prayers are you Adenoi who harkens to prayer. Amen.
Sometimes people read Psalm 91 and Ram 121 in addition to that. As the road is the Derah, the road is the derah. The (foreign language) is a greeting for have a good trip and that was that was the (foreign language), the travel orders prayer. I do not know if it still done but years ago, I got a lead on machine that you push when you get in your car for safe travelers prayer, for your driving, because there are some many car accident in Israel. The chief Rabbi recorded this little device and you just touch it and then unleash the prayer. Anyway have a good trip. (Foreign language).
