Jordin Sparks Interview
Audra Lowe: Just 17 years old, Jordin Sparks became the youngest contestant to
ever win American Idol. And that was three years ago fast forward
to today. Leslie caught up with the busy starlet to find out just how
life has changed since then.
Leslie: Since winning American Idol, Jordin Sparks has released three hit
albums and recently made her Broadway debut.
Jordin Sparks: The cast welcome me with open arms and it’s my first Broadway,
play in Broadway experience. So to be a part of a show that’s so
amazing and so touching, it’s phenomenal from my first time.
There have been a few kissing scenes that my dad’s like “Really,
you have kiss him like that. Really, really” and I’m like, “I have to
act. It’s a part of it”.
Leslie: Win your big songs is When You’re Home. So what it is like for
you when you go home now?
Jordin Sparks: Oh, my gosh. When I go home, it’s one of the best feelings ever.
I’ve got to go home I think maybe like two weeks or maybe three
weeks ago because family is very important to me, and my brother
is in a senior year of high school and he is on a varsity football
team. So I’ve got to go home and see one of his games and it’s just
really nice to go home and because when I go home I’m just, I’m
just Jordin.
Leslie: Home is in Arizona. The Broadway means living in New York
City for a while doing eight shows a week.
You have any vocal home works that you do?
Jordin Sparks: There is one where it helps bring your throat back down which
sounds pretty weird but you’ve got -- and -- na, na, na, na, all of
those and all that type of stuff and then just breathing and drinking
lots of water and lots of sleeps.
Leslie: Tips she learned well in American Idol. The show confirmed new
judges next season.
Jordin Sparks: Jennifer Lopez is going to great. She was a mentor on my season.
Then Steven Tyler, I’ve been a huge fan for a really long time and
I’m excited to see what happens with him to see who takes up like
the brutally honest role.
Leslie: It’s called Because Of You. You know there’s a Kelly Clarkson
song of the same name. Is there any relation?
Jordin Sparks: Yeah. I know. There’s no relation to the song, even though it’s a
beautiful. I love that song. I named it that because my fans are the
reason why I get to do what I do. I named it that because of you
guys.
Female: What’s been the most amazing thing you’ve done since you’re on
the American Idol?
Jordin Sparks: I have gotten to -- my gosh, go overseas, to so many places that
I’ve never been that I figured that I’d be going when I was retired.
I’ve got to go all those places and I’ve got perform for two
presidents. I sing the national anthem.
Leslie: Today, Jordin’s duet with Chris Brown as her best selling song.
Jordin Sparks: You know it was very crazy being on that music video. Just
because I was such a huge fan of his music and I’m still like I think
he’s super talented really helped the fact that we’re on the same
label and you know just working on a project then. When I’ve got
this song I knew it was something but I have no idea it was going
to be that massive.
Leslie: Your birthday is coming up in December.
Jordin Sparks: Yes.
Leslie: Are you looking for to being 21?
Jordin Sparks: Oh, my gosh. It’s very insane to think I’m going to be 21 soon
because I still feel like the 17-year-old girl that walked in the
audition room. But I’m really excited. I don’t know what I’m
going to do. I would love to have my cake made by like Cake Boss
or Ace of Cake, or something like that.
Audra Lowe: Thanks so much Leslie and Jordin actually wanted her perfume to
be very affordable. So it’s under $15.00. You can head to our
