Kabbalah for today-Installment 10
Hello, I am Gail Ginsburg, Spiritual Director of Esynagogue.org and this is Kabbalah for today practical introduction to traditional Jewish mysticism designed to help you along your life’s journey. In this installment we will considered Sephirah known as Yesod or foundation. As can be seen in this chart of the Sefirot, Yesod is next to the bottom, the ninth of the Sefirot. It is commonly referred to as foundation because it is here that the spiritual structure above connects with the material world which is envisioned as being below. Just as the foundation of a house serves to connect to the earth with the structure above
Yesod is often depicted sexually as the union of the male and female genitalia, which in their connection have created a power to form new life? Yesod is also talked about in terms of breath the covenantal relationship that connects us with God and which is often symbolized by the rainbow, the sign of a covenant between God and all life just as the rainbow appears to connect the earth with the sky.
In this series I have not yet discussed the unique Kabbalistic practice known as Gematria which is the assignment of numerical values to the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet which are used to calculate the numerical value of Hebrew words which are then connected with other words of the same numerical value, a standard a numerical a equivalency. Avoi will make later an entire video devoted to this topic. For now I would like to point out something interesting about Yesod.
The numerical value of the Hebrew word Yesod is a base on the letters Yod, Samekh, Vav and Dalet which can be broken down to eight times ten. The Hebrew letter which has a value of eight is faith that which are ten is Yod which form the Hebrew word hi or life. Yesod brings life, new life into the cosmos and new life to each of us. Yesod is, I will show you the chart again it is a balance point as Tiferet was a balance point Yesod is a balance point and is thusly associated with peace and harmony.
As you meditate on Yesod, draw down into your self the creative, spiritual energy from above and let it feel your physical being with peace and the healing power of new life. Let this energy connect you with God their by renewing and unifying the lower parts of your self, your sexuality and your creative powers. God’s peace and enjoy be with you always.
