I am going to show the bird that can be made from pineapple.
Look at this pineapple, imagine remember I talk about imagination can you see now this is the body, this is the tail of the bird, and now we have to get the head of the bird. I used this yellow squash for the head of the bird and if I attached it to the pineapple, can you see that this has become the bird now. In order to attach this nicely to the body of the pineapple I will slice the bottom part of a little bit. So it will be more like attached with and I will use the bamboo skewer, two of them. Attach part to pineapple make two of them. It secures then you use these kinds of snipper and then cut off some excessive part. We got this alright.
So what you do is just, my bird is kind of Toodit. It looks nice, let us make this ways. So we have to make the eyes of the bird. Normally, I will use the plastic eyes that I bought from art and craft store and if I punched into it where the head is then the eye will stay. But sometime if you cannot find these plastic eyes you can do some other way too. For example, if we do not have these plastic eyes, but we have a toothpick, we stick the toothpick across the head of the peacock and then snipped the excessive part off. Use the blueberry for the eye.
Now you get it, you got the bird with eyes, and here is the beak that comes with the yellow squash. And now, it’s the crown of the peacock. You can put anything on the crown of the peacock as long as you see it look elegant to your bird. So in this case, I would use some broccoli. Since this eye fall off let us use the plastic eyes to make it look nicely. So now we got the bird with head, beak, eyes, and body and tails, but we will make it more fabulous than that. Like us make the tail from all fruit and vegetable, here we are.
If I use the bamboo skewers of different size and plug it in at the tail part like a fan. Radius it like a fan and when you plug it in, so this one, the longer one will be outside and then I have the shorter one. The reason I do that a different length because I can have its layer and once you finish it you can see that the tail is full. You may wonder that why I would use sticks bamboo skewers into it first, I will explain to you later by showing you. Now the bamboo skewers are in place you can call your kids in and help you with this.
So we are going to put all the fruits and vegetables into this bamboo skewers one at the time. There is no particular order that you should put this one fruits and that one first or I have to put in the middle as long as you make this fruit into the bamboo skewers all the kids in and will help you with all these the fruit in at the end most of the time I like to use a whole strawberry it has some tip end, put some blueberry in so the philosophy of making this a tail is to have add decorative colorful tails. So when you go to the produce store looking for the fruit and vegetable of different colors and different textures and once you get that, that is the idea of our bird.
Can you get the idea now, you do not have to just do what I you know exactly what I do but you can create your own centerpiece from using the same philosophy and that what I meant to do. Just try that and do not afraid of making a mistake. I make a lot of mistake and all those mistakes are very useful for me to create a practical centerpiece.
Each tail does not have to be the same, each tail can be different.
Blueberry is very helpful in making a contrast color. The darkness of the color will help make the red color standout. Did you see now that the centerpiece start to become more beautiful, the more colorful and the more fruit, and the more variety of the fruit and vegetable that you use to help create this bird.
So now I am going to do a little bit more. So allow this area if I make a color for the bird. Using a toothpick, creating the center piece is fun and you do not have to think that what is you know the outcome before you do it because the outcome always change. I never can picture my bird that what it look like at the final stage because you are working with the nature sometimes that the nature do not allow you to do some certain thing. By this way you have to let the nature have their own way too.
Every time that I work on these kinds of centerpiece I have such have a good time. Let me finish this one.

Hi my name Pam Maneeratana. I have been the master of fruits and vegetable carving for more than 27 years so I have enough experience to show you how I can turn all this fruits and vegetable into an incredible centerpiece.
No, you do not have to be an artist or have any special skill. All you have is your imagination and do not be afraid of making a mistake. Yes, I made a mistake, I have made a lot of mistake and that mistake had help create a new carving technique and create a practical centerpiece. Like today, I am going to show all the centerpieces that I create from my mistake.
But before we go into that, I like to show you how I have my tools. This is the knife, they call it paring knife, small one, use it to peel, and this is a long carving knife that is chop on the inside radius, and very pointed, small, and thin, and durable. The other knife that I always use is my knife that is a little bit shorter. The handle is still easy to grip and work with it and again is a curve end radius chop. Do not forget to have this snipping because sometime we have to snipping some hard things just like a stem of broccoli or stem of bamboo stick.
Then a scissor, there is a different kinds of cut all the time so always have it prepare, a peeler, and a spoon this is for scooping and I always have a candle with me you never know when you turn a centerpiece you might need a candle, and I have it in just handy. And this is a scrapper, so it is a wood and we adjust like this and then you can scrape it easy. And at all times, I always had a bamboo skewers with me with the different length, did you see this? The reason I have it different length because I will be able to use it in order to make a fan, or a layer of any things so this come in handy. I bought this in a produce store or sometime in art and craft store it is not hard to find and a lighter in case that I used the candle so I’d be able to use the lighter to light the candle right then.
And I always have a marker. Sometimes my hand may not be still and I need a marker to help me to trace the line first. Draw it and then we trace the line by the knife later on and not only the marker, maybe a pen, is to keep in handy. Sometime, we had to write down something what you need and what you have to do all draw it on a surface of the fruit and vegetable. So did I tell you about toothpick? Yes I have to have a toothpick at all times. It’s very useful.
So this is all my tolls that I use and the very important one, is another one, is this turn-around table, you know, it is very durable, it is a metal. So it is able to hold a lot of weight like watermelons at least ten pounds, so I am able to just rotate the watermelon without lifting or touching it and this is very helpful.
This paring knife is a long been, I got it from my kitchen, it is a great knife and it has been and it is very durable so it help me to peel off watermelon and do any peeling. So let us start with the first bird that I am going to show you.
