First, of all you will hold the knife perpendicular. The tip perpendicular toward the bottom of the dome, place it and make a swing motion in and out do not just make a straight lay in. So, along the curve you will push your knife along the curve and then place the blade of your knife down at the bottom. Slanting your knife so the tip is outward, skin off some flesh of watermelon underneath of the cut that you just make so you get the petal stand out.
[Demo]
Again, you would try to skin off the next space of that petal that you just make, so you will see that the space is lower space, is lower level then the petal above. By this way if you do it this, way you would be able to make the petal overlap to each other. Then we make a rose bud technique, I always make it in one way. If you start with clockwise then keep continuing it to the middle, you want to do it a cup—counter clockwise then you will do with that do not change to put the direction on each time that you petal will go on, always keep the same direction.
[Demo]
Now that you see that we are reach the center part of the rose bud, right now this is what we call rose bud. We will re-shape this dome to make it point at the top. And I will start where the last petal is by underneath of the petal that I just make I place the knife in perpendicular and then make a swing motion up on the dome and stop where that I go half way. So I will skin off underneath. You will see that this petal will not go through the bottom as the other petal did. Now we will continue, on from where I cut and make a turning around the corner stop, then skin off.
[Demo]
This, one you can also, can you recall you as a spiral cut and we will placed at the spot that we just left off. Again make it to the top of that dome shape then you will skin off. As you can see that, now you will have the rose bud in the middle of the flowers.
