All right, let’s talk about an editing technique called “Fast Cutting”
Fast cutting came about as result of MTV and the internet and video games where all of a sudden we are being bombarded with massive amounts of information and our brains got so good at processing all these information so quickly, and now we get bored if we are not being bombarded by information.
And with fast cutting what you do is you cut very quickly in between scenes. For example, if you saw a movie 30 years ago they had a sword fight in it that sword fight was likely made up of one or two long scenes. By comparison if you see a movie today that had a sword fight that sword fight will be made up of about 300 individual scenes.
Now purists out there absolutely hate fast cutting. They think it ruins film and they think it ruins video, but hey you know what don’t show the messenger here I’m just delivering the message and the message is, is that today if you want to keep people engaged in glued to your videos you must use some form of fast cutting again, using quick changes in between scenes. This is something that even hot shot directors like Steven Spielberg and Quentin Tarantino agree on fast cutting is here it’s here to stay and if you want to keep your viewers engaged you have to use it in your videos.
