Keeping Your Hands Warm on the Mountain
Hi, I'm Ramona Bruland with your gear tip and today we’re going to talk about hands.
You get cold extremities? Well, here’s a couple of tips to keep your fingers from going blue while out on the slopes. First of all, stay hydrated. This helps with circulation. If your torso and your head are warm also, your fingers will be warmer.
For skiing, I prefer gloves with fingers. They're better for handling ski poles and straps and benefit general dexterity. For snow boarding, I like mitts because generally they are a little warmer. There is a little less surface area around each finger exposed to the cold air.
If you’re dressing kids go with the Mitts. Tiny cold fingers do not want to go into ski gloves. If you can’t put on one in the shop well you're not going to be able to get them on when out on the slopes.
Glove line is also keep your hands those few degrees warmer especially within Mitts they're good if you're taking a Mitts on and off through out the day, answering the cellphone, putting on chopstick, taking those photo’s.
If you got cold hands the glove line is our recommended thing. Don’t forget the dummy strap as well that will save you more than ones from dropping a glove off the charlotte. And be extra careful when you doing or undoing boot buckles or snowboard bandings.
If you get a little tear in the glove your hands going to be cold and wet for the rest of the day. You the tail well athletic types is a good fix or some people can't get enough of the duck tape. Now hand warmers can be a savior when out on the slopes you just open the package and give them a shake and they're good for the next seven hours.
Now it feels good when you hold them in the palm on your hands. But another good spot is on the back of your fingers.
This is better for it if you're holding poles and some gloves are even designed with a pocket right there on the back of your fingers. Now there are reusable hand warmers this is the more environmentally friendly version, you just bend the plate back and fort a couple of times wait until it clouds up, heats up and solidify and then you're set for the day. To reuse them you can drop them in a pot of boiling water for 10 to 15 and you're ready to go.
And when taking your gloves off, if it keep falling off the pole out the liner of the glove you’d be wrestling with a finger jam for days. Frustrating believe me. For Plum TV I'm Ramona Bruland and that is your hands and boots tip for today.
