Hey everyone, this is John again. I am going to show you how to play the song Stupid Boy today by Keith Urban and it's a pretty simple song. We are going to start off with the intro. This song is also drop D formation if you go to my video of Country Boy Can Survive, I will show you how to get into a drop D formation if you don't know.
Its start off with the slide, you are going to actually take your third finger, put it on the third fret of your E string, which is now actually a low D string, sounds like that. Now I take my first finger for this part and I am going to take it and I am going to put it in on the second fret of my G string, like that. I am not going to do anything with this finger. I am going to slide down two frets, just like that. And I kind of play these top four strings when I do that, just like. And the song starts off real quicker and its starts showing from there, so it sounds like. The first fret you can be playing.
Okay and after you get that down, you are going to go to the D chord, you are going to go. Having get that done, you are going to keep D formation and you are going to your A note here with your first finger, this one over here. I am going to do that pull off; you can go, like that. And then you are going to take your third finger this one right here and then we go right the formation and go to the fourth fret of your D string, right there. So it sounds like this and then you go to the second fret of the same string with the first finger. So that's what we have so far, just like that.
Now you have your first finger in the position where you can play any chord, so do that, play any chord right there. And you are going to hammer on up to the fourth fret of your D string, like that. Hammer on and pull off and then you are going to pull off of the whole A chord, actually you are gong to go. Just like that. Whole thing sounds like this.
Then the second part of this, the second riff is actually pretty similar. It's got the -- you play a few notes over. In the first part, in the first fret we go, in the second note I go, I do a hammer on, like that. That's really the only difference.
When we get to the chords when it start going 'stupid boy' you are going to actually put that G chord differently, you don't do the slide anymore. You are going to take your fourth finger, your pinky here; we are going to put it on the fifth fret of your E string. Then you are going to take your first finger and you are going to put on the third fret of your B string. Take your third finger put in on the fifth fret of the drop D, at the D chord. It's like this, and like that. And with those riffs you can play the song pretty well.
