Daddy Troy: Welcome back to Gear Daddy. I am your host Daddy Troy. You know just because your kid’s cannot ride a bike. It does not mean you cannot take the whole family out for a bike ride. From chairs that are attached to the back of your bike, to third wheels to bike trailers, there are numerous options for you to go out, take a bike ride, keep fit and set a great example for your kids. Let us check some of them out.
Daddy Troy: Here we are today with Chris Carter from the bicycle sport shop. Chris, tell us about bike trailers.
Chris: Sure, this bike trailer is designed by Trek. This has really nice cushy seats, it also has a five-point harness.
Daddy Troy: Well, it is color coded too to know where to push in order to get come out exactly correct.
Chris: And it is easy as well to latch and unlatch. This comes out. So, when your child spills their bicycling trailer ride snack all over the seat, then this is washable. The floorboard of this is a very thick nylon material, it has a cup holder. Now, the other thing too that I usually recommend when somebody is buying one of these is a camel back.
Daddy Troy: Camel back is the thing that you put on your back that you can sip water out of.
Chris: I will drop it in the storage area, your son or daughter has the camel back tube right here. If they are holding their bottle and they dropped their bottle on the floor, now you have to stop, dismount, get off the bike, unzip you know--
Daddy Troy: It is advise from a true dad right there, yeah exactly. Those little pull rings that you can pull them tight, and this is a two-seater.
Chris: This is a two-seater
Daddy Troy: Can you get them in one-sitter models as well?
Chris: We do have one-sitter models, this one is up to a hundred pounds.
Daddy Troy: A hundred pounds for a hundred and hundred or fifty and fifty?
Chris: A hundred total.
Daddy Troy: So, it could be three – four sitter. So, Chris one of the problems I am having with my particular trailer is that my kids’ helmets, when they wear, when the kids wear helmets when they are riding on this?
Chris: They should, yes.
Daddy Troy: They should, okay. And so my kids are wearing a helmet, their helmet hits the back of the one I have got which is not as nice as this one and they look down over time, they are not enjoying the ride as much. Do you think, is that an issue with this one when your kids ride.
Chris: This is a low back seat and this mesh pocket back here is created for that depth of the helmet.
Daddy Troy: Alright, super. And this is made out of aluminum of its length so it is fairly light when you are the dad or mom, pedaling with your kids, it is lighter.
Chris: My wife and I actually did a ride, we had a tandem and then we had the kid trailer off the bike.
Daddy Troy: So, it was you or you and your wife on the bike and then the trailer on the back. Wow! That is a sight to see.
Chris: It was a blast.
Daddy Troy: That is really cool.
Chris: But these are really nice, you know the roll cage, they are hard to tipped.
Daddy Troy: So, how does it hook up to your bike? Can you show me, is there a little piece here or something we hook in?
Chris: This actually goes on the rear of the bike. The trailer comes with a special screw that is longer than your normal screw, it accommodates.
Daddy Troy: It sticks out a little bit?
Chris: And you can just leave this on your bike, that is a nice feature. Undo the trailer undo the trailer and leave it in your garage if you are just going out for a spin r you want to run down to the store.
Daddy Troy: It is a rotation?
Chris: So, if you fall down, the trailer does not fall down.
Daddy Troy: The bike goes over, you go over, trailer stays horizontal.
Chris: That way they can laugh at you.
Daddy Troy: There is a wheeler you can put right here and some of the, you can use as a jogging, then it becomes three wheel stroller type, jogging instrument.
Chris: Such real stroll in the jogger.
Daddy Troy: Am I going to be able to fit it into the back of my Prios?
