Matt: My name is Matt. I'm from Colorado and I've heard that kidney stone is painful. How do I prevent myself from getting one? Brad Rovin: Well Matt, you're exactly correct. Kidney stones become painful when they leave the kidney and pass into the bladder, and then from the bladder into the urine. The best way to prevent kidney stones is to maintain yourself in a very well-hydrated state, and that means taking in plenty of fluid and avoiding excessive dehydration. Additionally, it would be useful to avoid excessive intake of foods containing calcium but that does not mean to restrict your calcium intake and take less than the normal daily allotted requirement. Additionally, taking in less meat products, would also be potentially helpful.
