Jeff Anderson: When you are talking about close quarters combat, you are in clinch work. Lot of people try to use like a knee strike. You see this is a lot in mix martial arts, people getting really tired to drop you against -- and get somebody up against the fence and you start knee striking them. It's actually very, very hard to pull off, especially on a close course, it's going to be like a bar or something like that. And here's why.
If you are in the clinch here, okay? And you are right here, you are locked up solid, on the upper body. So he's got a good grip on me, I have got a good grip on him, this is where people usually, try and come in and try and fight with their knees.
Now you think that, that will work out really, really well, except that, because he has got such a strong hold on my upper body, try fighting with one leg. It's not going to work, from here, it's very easy for him to get me off, balance, while I am trying to knee him. So you've got to gain control up here, first before you get the knee strike in.
There is a much, much better target in this position, that can really take him out of the fight and get him off, balance. And it's basically, right on top of his foot. There's these tiny little bones, right about, where you tie your shoelaces, right on top of your foot. So when you clinch, while he is trying to gain control here, all you do is just stop down. Now, your head is already going to be down, so you can already look at your target. From here, you just stop, right on top of the foot there with your heel.
Those tiny little bones are going to be pulverized, you are going to crush them. So now what have you got? You have got the clinch here, you got boom! I have just taken out this leg. He is not going to be a able to stand on it. He has no more structure left there.
So now, what I have got, is a clinch with him on one leg and from here, I can manhandle him and then go boom! Strike on there, I can twist him around by his shirt, I can follow up all sorts of things. Just take him straight down to the ground if I want to. There's a lot of options, that you can do. So stop trying to pull off, the very powerful knee strike in the clinch and focus on those really, really powerful target, like the top of the foot, where you can easily, easily damage; you won't even know, that's coming.
