Welcome back to Gear Daddy. I am you host Daddy Troy. These two building blocks may look the same but they are not, and today we are going to talk about what differentiates between this little block that works well with little fingers and helps to build big civil engineers for the future in this plastic piece of junk.
All joking aside, today’s episode is all about off brands that do not work as opposed to brands that do work, tried, tested and true. This is a Lego brand, you have heard of this as Lego. Actually, this is Duplo, these are duplos. These are for kids with smaller hands, developing kids. And these duplos actually they stick together so nicely. They hold up to repeated use and when you pull apart, they have a little bit of stick but then they come apart. They are great for building with. I love this product.
This is a knock-off of the duplos and you can see the difference immediately. You could feel the difference. They are very soft and squishy. When I bounce them on a table, you can actually—here is the Lego, nice high sound. And here is the knock-off, has a very dull sound to it, not as nice of a plastic. And when you use this over and over again, they eventually get to the point that they do not stick together anymore and kids get really frustrated with this. My family in particular, they do not even want to use them anymore. The problem is they get mixed up with this, so I have separate them in my family and these are going away, never to be seen again. But do not tell the kids; it will happen in the middle of the night. We are Lego’s only, Duplos only family.
The next part that I want to talk about is crayons. I like Crayon and Crayola. They make really funky colors. You know, you use them as a kid. But more importantly to that, they do not break as easily when kids use them, and here is the knock off brand right here. This is—it looks almost, you can notice right here. It looks almost like the Crayola Crayon brand. But this knock off right here that you get them in cheap coloring books, you get them at restaurants to keep the kids occupied, but this break really easily and they do not go on as smoothly as well. Most importantly though, they break and that is not really fun for kids.
So do not use—you do not have to ditch things. Actually, you can melt them down and use them as wax as some sort of creative project you are doing, but use this for coloring.
And finally, I want to talk about is this. It is not a toy but it is adhesive bandages. These are by three and these are called Nextcare. I have also got band aids, they stick really, really well on kids and they come of easily with a lot less of pain.
Well last week, my wife and I decided to buy some of these off brand band aids because my daughter really like the rainbow coloring. But when you put this on your finger, check this out, you put this on your finger—I put them on my kids’ fingers and after two or three flexes—boom, they are already coming off right here. Not worth the price of buying, just junk them.
