Ah, spam you can touch! Free trial offers. Look free cosmetics, free hotel room, and this looks interesting. So before you sign up for any free trial offer, you should know your rights. I’m Stefanie Schaeffer and this is Know Your Rights TV.
Chances are you’ve gotten offers to try free products or services through a free trial offer, the company must tell you if there are conditions attached to the deal. While the company may claim its product or service has no risk or obligation, that maybe true only if you take some timely action. By not canceling within a specified time period, you maybe agreeing to a subscription, a service contract, or some type of membership, the fees for which could be charge directly to your credit card.
Here are some questions and some information that you should know. Is there a deadline to cancel? If so, how much time do I have? Is there a membership fee? Is it refundable? How do I stop getting additional merchandise or services? Are these things going to be automatically billed to my credit card?
If you have problem with the free trial offer, try to resolve it with the seller first. If you’re not satisfied with the result, then contact your local Better Business Bureau or your local Consumer Protection Agency. So before you get caught in a sales trap, don’t be afraid to do a little ground work. Ask questions. You’re the consumer.
To know your right, subscribe to our show. I’m Stefanie Schaeffer. Thanks for watching.
