Hi! Today, we’re talking about – oh, excuse me. Ah, teller marketers! And it is even dinner time. Do you know your rights when it comes to teller marketers? I’m Stefanie Schaeffer. This is Know Your Rights TV.
Did you know that companies can call you for up to 18 months after you make a purchase? Or even up to three months after you filed an application or just made an inquiry. The Federal Trade Commission has launched a program called Do Not Call Registry. It allows Americans to make their own choices about whether they want their phone numbers on these lists. You can add your number to the Do Not Call List one of two ways. Donotcall.gov gives you full instructions how to do it online or you can call the phone number, 888-382-1222.
If you like to do it by phone, simply call from the number that you wish to add and follow the prompts. You should understand though that not all calls are covered and you may still receive calls from surveyors, some political organizations, and certain charities.
If you’ve been on the registry at least 31 days and a teller marketer calls you, complain to the FTC. You can do so by visiting donotcall.gov or calling one, 888-382-1222. You’ll need to provide the date of the phone call and either the name of the person or the name of the company who called you.
To know your rights, subscribe to our show. I’m Stefanie Schaeffer. Thanks for watching.
