This is Phone Arena’s video review of the LG Chocolate. This is the European version which is a tri band GSM. As you have notice it’s a small slider almost completely black with lots of surface. The phone feels very solid in the hand when the slider is closed but the top part slightly wobbles when opened. Opening the phone with one hand is very easy due to the excellent construction of the sliding mechanism. To open it, only a light push is necessary. Once opened the keys on the top slider are lit up in red. Actually they are not standard keys but they are activated only when touch with a finger. The lower keypad is a standard numeric one and during our test we found it very comfortable to use with excellent key press response.
The left side houses the volume keys while the multi media and the end keys are on the right all four keys are relatively small but well positioned and comfortable to use. The right side features a port use for charging the phone or connecting the headset. The 1.3 mega pixel camera is positioned in the back. Performs reasonably well in well lit conditions. Overall the LG Chocolate is a very stylish device with excellent dimensions and construction.
The Chocolate displays 176 by 220 pixels with 262000 colors. The image quality is nice with good contrast and very saturated colors but its physical sizes can be larger. At the home screen shows the standard information’s such as the time, the battery and the signal strength. The phonebook is mediocre and shows the contacts as a list with a small icon next to them, show them to which contact they belong to. Multiple numbers which picture id are supported but distinctive ring cannot be assigned.
The main menu is in a two by three icons grid and each menu can be accessed via keyboard shortcut for example pressing 5 will enter the messaging menu. Entering the new messages can be simple and easy. Each option on the messaging menu can be accessed via shortcut. Notice a small tab at the top of the screen just bellow the menus name.? Those are actually the nine options from the main menu.
Pressing left on the messaging menu will bring up the previous one which now are case is your organizer. There we have the calendar and the memo option. Enter task for particular day is easy and straightforward. The memos are just plain notes with all thee option to set an alarm. The tools menu there are several more options which actually should have been in the organizer., world clock, unit converter, calculator and the alarm.
We found the unit converter particularly handy with its string input conversions.
The multimedia menu features the mp3 player, the voice recorder and the camera. The voice recorder is very limited and only allows clips up to twenty seconds each. The mp3 player is with limited functionality as well. It lacks play list and the songs cannot be sorted by artist or album. The camera is 1.2 mega pixels with uncomfortable interface. It allows brightness adjustment and color effects such as sepia, negative, etcetera. The camera performs well in well lit conditions.
The battery is rated for six hours of continuous talk time and about 20 hours of standby. In our test we reached the six hour without mark without a problem. The other party of the voice is heard very clearly but use the volume of the ear piece is louder. The other party reported also that they hear us loud and clear. In conclusion the LG chocolate definitely offers a head turner design. We only wait that its functionality was more advanced.
