Hi! My name is Katie Jackson, and I'm here at Studio Bleu Dance Center in Ashburn, Virginia. Today, I'm going to teach you how to Jazz Dance. First, we're going to learn how to do an a La Seconde turn.
And now we're going to break it down. We're going to start by pointing to the side. My knees nice and straight, all the way through my toe, my toes nice and pointed. My arms are nice and strong. The strength comes from my shoulders in the back. I'm going to prep behind. I'm going to bend both knees. My left knee is bent, my right foot is on the floor. My right knee is bent, but my heel comes off the floor.
Now I'm going to start by turning, keeping my legs straight out in front, bring it up, bring it back down. As my leg goes this side, I'm going to take my left leg and rise up into relevé or onto my tip toes. So we're going to start here, up, down, up, down. And my heel, when I plié, drops to the ground. And now I'll show you what they look like.
And I'll break it down for you one more time. Start by pointing your right foot to the side. Straightening your knee all the way through your foot, taking my foot directly behind, keeping my arms nice and strong for my shoulders. I'm going to turn, keep my leg out in front, take it up to this side, back down, up to this side, back down. When I bring my heel down, I have to plié to keep this going.
These turns are a little bit easier when you go fast because you have a constant momentum. It doesn't take as much control, but remember to keep your abs tight, your spine elongated all the way through the top of your head. And now here is what they look like.
And that's how you do an a La Seconde turn.
Well, I hope you've enjoyed dancing with me today, and you've learned a lot about Jazz Dance. I'm Katie Jackson here at Studio Bleu Dance Center in Ashburn, Virginia. We also have a studio in Sterling, Virginia. I hope you will come back and dance with me again.
