Occasionally a team will play in the Invert Offense. The Invert Offense will slow down the pace of the game. By taking your middies and having them play offense from behind the goal, the defense now has to make their middies to play defense from behind the goal, something that they are usually not used to.

Second, you will limit the number of fast breaks that the opposing team will have. By forcing their middies to go behind the goal they cannot get out for clear break.

And third when the defense is playing their backs are to the offense. So, players can cut from up top and get good shots from inside.
