David Sheinkopf: All the houses in this neighborhood are pretty similar, but the people who live in them they are unique. Hi, I’m David Sheinkopf with Lowes Creative Ideas. We’ve transformed this space from a hot plain looking yard to a beautiful garden where Charla can entertainment; enjoy her passion for cooking or kickback in relaxing comfort. We made it all happen with a little help from Lowes and seen unexpected creative ideas. Let’s take a look at where it had all began.
Charla: I love entertaining and I love cooking and I love having friends and folks over.
Leslie Sadler: Charla asked me if there’s a way where she could get a little shade, add some colors, some scent to the garden and if there was something we could do to really reconfigure the patio so that she could use it for entertaining or even just to sit outside with the book.
Charla: This is the yard Leslie. It’s a good size yard, but I’d like to personalize it a little bit more, make it more my space.
Leslie Sadler: When I get back with Charla after our initial meeting, I have to put together kind of a plan and a mood board with some inspiration shots of the actual product shots as well.
We had elevations. We draw out a plan of really how the whole yard would layout. They kind of like that brick ton that red to your cut of color is really great. I think it will look good with the grey on these sidings.
David Sheinkopf: I think it’s a great time to emphasize the importance of having a clear plan of progression on any after project.
Leslie Sadler: I agree. You know, it’s a really good idea to start with the heavy lifting first, laying your patio, your walls.
David Sheinkopf: Exactly.
Leslie Sadler: And you know if you need help, there’s so many experts out there. We told our landscape guru’s Scott who have a great idea of what will work really well here for Charla.
Scott: The grass is not necessary here. It’s kind of a wasted space. If it’s going to be for path we’ll probably all get some pavers down here.
Charla: Sure.
Leslie Sadler: Will that be alright to you?
Charla: Yeah, they are working very well together. I like the redness that I see here and the mundane and picking up some of that into pavers.
David Sheinkopf: A patio can breathe the whole new life to a backyard and you don’t even have to be a pro to tackle the project. In fact, you can watch your how to video at Lowes.com to get started.
Leslie Sadler: Lowes has projects calculations so you can be sure to order just a right amount of materials. They all be delivered right to your door. That making it much more fun, spending your time planning and designing the space, without the light we could treat you know, look at the Wisconsin and that needs ambient lighting.
Charla: Yeah, that would be great.
Leslie Sadler: I have sort of light.
Charla: A secluded little sanctuary out here.
Leslie Sadler: So, David comes on back I want to show how a lighted plant can be gathered out here.
David Sheinkopf: Well and we talk about the later lighting. I’ve got the ambient; you’ve got the task lighting. What did you take out here?
Leslie Sadler: I think it’s just as important how the lighting plans outside is inside, so we started with a bunch of path light in here. Choose it pretty tougher.
David Sheinkopf: It’s beautiful really ties everything together.
Leslie Sadler: Thank you. We carried up here in a big way.
David Sheinkopf: This was in not on the usual plan.
Leslie Sadler: Exactly, David. Originally, we’re going to put a scant over here on the wall and I just decide Charla needed a little more light outside. I love the sides and scale of this and using the copper kind of tide back in on the rest of the plan.
David Sheinkopf: Yeah, this looks like and indoor land but it isn’t.
Leslie Sadler: It does but you know it’s an outside land for it’s rated for outside. Use this cozy for the inside but it better works outside.
David Sheinkopf: And I love the color of shape plus the chairs, pretty good.
Leslie Sadler: So, in the outside there’s plenty of lighting for a party.
David Sheinkopf: And perfect.
Leslie Sadler: These are fantastic you know they look that they can work inside but they are completely weather proof.
David Sheinkopf: You know, we always talk about brining the outside in but you brought the inside out.
Leslie Sadler: Sure, David.
David Sheinkopf: This is great.
Leslie Sadler: Why not be it’s comfortable outside as we are inside.
David Sheinkopf: I love it.
Leslie Sadler: Why not that it look is good. I mean look at this furniture, it’s beautiful and all weather and they are so many fabrics and colors and stones to pick from.
David Sheinkopf: This is great.
Leslie Sadler: It’s pretty swell huh?
.
David Sheinkopf: It’s really good, really good.
Leslie Sadler: And then there also as a plan ideas that you and I and Scott has been looking for. You know, we talked about gardens and having that pretty scent walking in and out your bedroom window.
David Sheinkopf: Out of the plants you picked out a really cool. How do you choose what type do you plant?
Leslie Sadler: Well, I began on research. I think the important to do is match as you can. Books, magazine, you know even going online, getting the sense of what you think you want to do. When you’re ready pop in the card, take a trip to Lowes and lay some of these plans out here and put them together and see if it’s really feels a good work.
David Sheinkopf: What are these upfront?
Leslie Sadler: These are sweet volumes, anti-sweet.
Scott: It would be great to get some shade back here. There’s absolutely nine and I love these houses. They don’t plant many trees though. We can give her some evergreens along the back to get it that privacy.
Leslie Sadler: It will be something that blooms like a great flower.
David Sheinkopf: One thing homeowners often overlooked is soil quality. Certain soils can be more acidic than other and some plants may fell or dry as the result. But we plant ahead and purchase a soil test kit from Lowes. Don’t forget, fall or early spring is really the best time to test.
Scott: It will be nice to soften up this foundation a little bit.
Leslie Sadler: We were talking about some scent.
Scott: There’s a shrub called the tea olives it’s got a great fragrance too. We can do both of those over there along the house.
Leslie Sadler: During the landscape project like this it’s really a great investment if something people can enjoy right now, but when they go to other’s home it really sets them apart.
David let me show you all the fun things we came up within the last minute, like this sign. It’s made out of chalkboard paints so you can leave a message.
David Sheinkopf: This is so great. Let me guess, this is returning it around.
Leslie Sadler: Exactly. We cook in tonight. Tomorrow night it’s my gal pen.
David Sheinkopf: I love the most.
Leslie Sadler: Isn’t that pretty? You know, these special touches really make a place personal. I think it really feels like Charla.
David Sheinkopf: No, I think you definitely achieve that.
Leslie Sadler: Yeah, some herbs and flowers. Look what we did over here.
David Sheinkopf: That’s a great, too appearing.
Leslie Sadler: Isn’t it fun? We actually bought this at Lowes but if you try to make one there are plants online.
David Sheinkopf: They have some really neat touch.
Leslie Sadler: Oh, it’s like the little ideas that popped up along the way. I think it’s so important to keep thinking creatively all the way to the project.
David Sheinkopf: I totally agree. I mean, this place looks fantastic. And it totally feels like Charla.
Leslie Sadler: That feels like Charla.
David Sheinkopf: Charla’s garden is ready for great dinner or parties or relaxing more is in the patio. The results really speak for themselves.
With a little work and some creative ideas from Lowes, Charla’s backyard is her own paradise.
Leslie Sadler: Lowes Creative Ideas is about you and project like this, to find out more, go to LowesCreativeIdeas.com and while you’re there subscribe to our free magazine.
