David: Hey boys and girls. I’m David, this is Mauricio and we’re here to talk about learning English.
This is Mauricio and I’ve asked him to share a little bit about his experience learning English. How he got started, what motivated him, difficulties and obstacles. Mauricio, blow us away.
Mauricio: Okay. First of all, thank you. What’s important is your desire, what motivates you to study English. After today, what motivates you to never stop studying English? So whatever you want and whatever you achieve in your life, you must go after it everyday. So please don’t stop studying English at all.
David: Alright. Mauricio, what was it that motivated you to start studying English?
Mauricio: When I first contact with Greenhills when I was about 13, and when I was 16, I wanted to talk with Americans—I mean, American girls. That’s important because I didn’t speak any word of English and I was kind of afraid if the translator was speaking wrong things that I didn’t, you know. What’s important is that I found in there something that woke me up to start studying English and see Florida that I never saw before.
David: That’s your long term focus.
Mauricio: When I go to work, I saw it high--
David: So what did you do to study? How did you study the language?
Mauricio: I used to make up sentences and the more I learned everyday. So I think it’s important that you memorize your vocabulary. The most vocabulary you have, it’s better. You get to understand the people around you and you need to express yourself. Because English is like—it’s just it, when you can understand people and when you can make yourself understood. So people want to understand names and date, they want to be understood. And like what I’m saying, what’s important is you use all of these and keep learning everyday in all situations you have daily.
David: Alright. Very good. Good tips. Was there ever a point when you’re studying on the language when you felt like you got an obstacle or you were frustrated and how did you overcome that?
Mauricio: That always happens to everybody who are studying a new language because sometimes when they think you can’t learn it and they think it’s too hard and they think nobody can understand and they think it’s impossible and when they think of many things, that goes right to pushing back. I’m asking, please don’t give up deep in yourself. There are a lot of times when you have to learn like French or Spanish, it’s not so easy. It’s good when you can see the fruit of your study, your study results. What’s important here is your daily study. Please study everyday and try to read, to listen, to talk—something new that makes you talk in English.
David: So like the keyword here is practice.
Mauricio: Correct.
David: You need to practice everyday. Alright, good tips. Thanks for sharing them with us. Guys, thanks for being here with us and we’ll talk soon. Bye bye.
