Tiffany Young: Hi there and welcome to Neo-fight.tv the Technology Review with two points of view. My name is Tiffany Young.
Ben Freedman: And I’m Ben Freedman. And today is Tuesday August 22nd. And today we are looking at a neat small little product kind of low tech but I really like it its a called the LapWorks Lap Desk its this little guy right here. Small enough to go in your bag or what have you and it basically does two things. Number one, you can prop up this open up this little stand like this and it turns into sort of a wedge shape how easily you could see that and what you do is take your laptop and its got this none stick stuff on here and now you are at a not only at a more ergonomic typing angle I guess.
Tiffany Young: I think it’s ergonomic.
Ben Freedman: Ergonomic?
Tiffany Young: I think is that word—did you said that word right?
Ben Freedman: What you think it is? Ergonomic?
Tiffany Young: Yeah I think it was more ergonomic.
Ben Freedman: Ergonomic, ergonomic.
Tiffany Young: I don’t know I think it was ergonomic. Anyway go ahead.
Ben Freedman: It’s at an easier typing angle and it’s designed to allow more heat flow when it comes to your laptop. And then the second thing that you can do is—
Tiffany Young: Yeah, I’m not going to complain about that so I like that so far we’re okay.
Ben Freedman: So far we’re okay. You open it flat likes so and you can put your laptop like so and now you could put it in your legs and normally if you put your laptop on your legs if your pants like block the fan.
Tiffany Young: Right.
Ben Freedman: Your laptop will get hot this still allows you to have channels on the side were the air can get in and out and its you know and also I guess put something between your legs and your laptop so it does not get hot.
Tiffany Young: I noticed my legs still got hot, you did notice that at all?
Ben Freedman: No just got hot legs.
Tiffany Young: Maybe. That could be it.
Ben Freedman: Sorry.
Tiffany Young: Not that you can see them right now but.
Ben Freedman: For the under 18 viewers out there I apologize for that blatantly sexist remark. You know what I definitely do not have
hot legs, and my legs still got a little hot.
Tiffany Young: Okay.
Ben Freedman: I will agree with you on that.
Tiffany Young: And I really do think that the way it was setup like this at this angle, you know this is ergonomically correct.
Ben Freedman: Ergonomically.
Tiffany Young: Whatever the word is. That really works well. However, when I did—and it’s really you do not feel bad it’s you know it’s a little bit you know—
Ben Freedman: Sturdy?
Tiffany Young: Sturdy, yeah it’s sturdy. It’s a little plasticky but not bad. But problems that I ran into were that number one, I don’t know if you can see it or not but it this board does not actually sit flat. So when I have the laptop and I tried to you know work with it a couple of different ways but when I have the laptop on my lap, I notice that is very titter tottery.
Ben Freedman: Because it does not quite lie flat.
Tiffany Young: Because does not quite lie flat. Exactly. Another thing was my legs got tired you know I had to like you know prop up my legs for a little in order to get the right angle on such.
Ben Freedman: Sure.
Tiffany Young: So you know, for 30 bucks, for me personally I don’t think this is a very good buy I mean you know I just—
Ben Freedman: Mostly because your legs still got hot and you still wanted to—
Tiffany Young: Well it did not lay flat, it did not lay flat. I do like the angle you know the angle but see I think maybe one of this things would be you know another addition to another item on my desk that I use a couple of times and put on the drawer that’s how I saw this.
Ben Freedman: I actually really liked it on my desk and that usually my angle mode I think that’s better than the lap mode.
Tiffany Young: Yeah. You know I agree.
Ben Freedman: I found out that it was easier to type and brought the screen up a little bit.
Tiffany Young: So you know for inexpensive $30.00 which should prop it up.
Ben Freedman: Yeah.
Tiffany Young : You know so it’s—you find a better risk.
Ben Freedman: Then I guess it’s a pinch when you get it on your lap.
Tiffany Young: Yeah for a lap wise I would think it’s a good idea but it’s not there yet, you know its not quite there yet.
Ben Freedman: One other issue I had with it although I had no problem using it on my legs for a while because again, legs still got hot but not as hot as—
Tiffany Young: But not as hot like mine of course.
Ben Freedman: Not as hot as yours. The only issue I found was there was not much enough room for my mouse on there.
Tiffany Young: Oh yeah!
Ben Freedman: They do sell an optional mouse pad that you can buy that could clip on here.
Tiffany Young: Right! It should come with it though.
Ben Freedman: It should come with it or it should be. You know what would be great is if it would like slid inside and you could just slid it out.
Tiffany Young: But you know, I would say as well to, I’m so used not using that little mouse pad. You know that actually my mouse pad is like worn off to that little square from all the use.
Ben Freedman: All the thing you are rubbing?
Tiffany Young: Yup exactly, because I don’t use a mouse.
Ben Freedman: You should use the mouse.
Tiffany Young: Right. Anyway, so for me that wouldn’t be such a big deal. But for someone who uses a mouse absolutely and for 30 bucks it should come with it.
Ben Freedman: And I’m a guy who likes to plug in mouse a lot.
Tiffany Young: Right.
Ben Freedman: If you carry a little portable one around, I could plug it in and use that mouse.
Tiffany Young: Right.
Ben Freedman: So I think it should come with for that money.
Tiffany Young: Yup I agree.
Ben Freedman: But I got to tell you I like this product you know I think that the angle version works well. I don’t think there anything you could do without getting heavier and bulkier to make it—you know I think it channels the air the way it should and its only 30 bucks. I give this a four out of five.
Tiffany Young: So I’m going to give this three out of five simply because I do like the way that this work at an angle. I think that as is a nice design, however the actual lap sitting of the lap with a laptop on my lap did not work out at all. So I'm going to give it a minus two points for that so that’s 4/5 for Ben and 3/5 for me and that’s 7 out of ten for LapWorks Laptop Desks. And if you have 30 seconds try to look at this.
