January has seen a high level of activity across the digital camera market. With new product launches for many of the major players as well as the new face on the block. General Electric had launched a new digital camera range. Market center into the UK and European consumer electronics market back by its success in the USA. Olympus announced that they are adding three new FP model to their compact range and two tough well protected Mio model that are shock and water resistant. After the success of the midrange A10D, Pentax released the successor, the K20D. It’s physically the same but with a 14 megapixel sensor, fly view and improved shake reduction system. The K200D is a quick down version, with a 10.2 megapixel sensor, but it still boasts the 2.7 inch viewing screen and the 11 point AF system. All this comes on top of the launch from Cannon the same day. They launch a massive range of new products, notably the new EOS 450D digital SLR. With a 12.2 megapixel sensor, the EOS 450D has a 9 point AF system, integrated cleaning system, and also what’s fast becoming a standard fate of live view and 3 inch preview screen. Nikon too launch their D60 as replacement for the D40X, which is just a year old. It features a 10.2 megapixel sensor and it should be available in late February. So we ask, with an upgrade this quick, is this the pattern for the future, only time will tell. Turning now to lenses, Nikon, Cannon, and Pentax have new ranges available.
