Ren: Hey Guys! It's Ren from Makeup by Ren Ren and --
Saisha: Saisha!
Ren: And today we are going to show you --
Saisha: The signature braided look that Lauren Conrad often rocks.
Ren: So if you are interested, stay tuned for more. So guys, this is my best friend in the entire world, Saisha.
Saisha: Hi!
Ren: And I mentioned her one of my last videos and she watches all the shows that you guys love; 'Gossip Girls', she loves 'The Hill', she loves 'The City' and what else is there?
Saisha: Well, when 'Laguna Beach' was on.
Ren: She loves 'Laguna Beach'. So I was like this is the go-to girl to rock the Lauren Conrad hairstyle and that's one of our really popular requests. So she is really, really good at hair and I am not. So I was like, girl, you got to do it. So she is going to take over. So we are going to do a braided look from Lauren Conrad, will you describe it?
Saisha: It's the look that she has wearing, except the side of her hair and it sports the front. You can wear it either day or night, you can dress it up or you can dress it down during the day. It's just a really easy look that gets hair out of your face and I think it's really cute for upcoming spring and summer as well.
Ren: And also, it's good too because if you have grown your bangs like me and like Saisha, it is good to get it out of face and that's a good thing. So what materials do we need?
Saisha: Okay, first, I like to have a smoothing cream because when you get the braid, you want to make sure you don't have any flyaways and freebies because you just don't want that really messy look. I also like to have a brush that will smooth down the freebies as well. So that's good to have. Also, it's good to have our rat-tail comb just to get that really nice side part.
Bobby pins, of course, because once you actually get the braid in there, you want to bobby pin it to your head. Then I often like to have a pretty flower and I know that Ren loves to have flowers as well.
Ren: Oh! I really love the flowers.
Saisha: Right! So I think it just gives it a really nice touch with especially spring and summer, it just looks really pretty, a feminine look. And then the braid to hold the hair in place if you actually want to do maybe a messy side bond or ponytail or something like that, just to tie and it all went together, or you can have your hair just loose altogether for that just feminine look.
Ren: Okay, so those are probably a few things; hair brush and combs, smoothing cream, braid and bobby pins. So all of you should pretty much have all of these materials. This one is just L'Oreal, you can get that anywhere on Target and I get all these little things from Meckler's (ph) and things like that. So can you show us how to do it?
Saisha: Yeah, absolutely! Okay, first we are going to create a really deep side part and I just like the deep side part because it just -- I don't know, it just makes it look different as opposed to having it closer towards the middle of your head. So just spread it right there and then what I do is just go back towards the back of your ear lobe and that's how far I will make the part right there, to the back of your ear lobe. So that once you get that braid done, you can easily just bobby pin it behind so then it's easy to disguise the bobby pins because you don't really want that poking up. So once I have done that, I am going to go ahead and just take this hair and put it in a ponytail.
Ren: To kind of get out of the way.
Saisha: Exactly! Just so that you don't get it mixed up in the braid and it's just easy to handle. Okay, so I am going to grab some of this hair.
Ren: I think it looks good at that side.
Saisha: Yeah, let's rock in. Okay, you just comb it out. Now I am going to take a section of the hair as if you are about to braid.
Ren: Do you need to put the smoothing cream first or after?
Saisha: What I do is I will put a little bit before and you actually have a little bit in already. That's something that we didn't show you guys to put a little bit in before. So just rub it in, not too much because you don't want your hair to look super-flat.
Ren: Like how much?
Saisha: Maybe like a dime size, just to rub the entire hair. And just take a section of hair, really small section. I think that amount you guys can see that, there you go and you are going to section it into three pieces, like you are going to braid. That's exactly what you are going to do. Okay, now I want you guys to see this. To start the braid, with the French braid that's essentially what we are doing. Usually, you braid over, but we want this braid to pop so it has that 3D look which is something that you don't really see a lot.
So what you do instead of going over, I am going to take this left strand right here and go under the middle and it crosses over. Then the right strand I am going to take it and gather just a little bit of hair with it and go under the middle strand. You guys can see. Okay, so now again, the left strand, gather a little bit of hair and have it go under the middle strand. Again, the hair now that's the right strand, grab a little bit of hair and have it go under the middle strand.
Ren: So you are just going under, under, under.
Saisha: Exactly! Exactly, and you are just grabbing hair as you go for each side and having it cross under the middle strand of hair or the middle section which is how you get that 3D look. So it's essentially, if you know how to braid, you can definitely do this; you just have to alter your style just a little bit. So instead of going over, just go under. We are going to keep doing that.
Ren: So Sai, when you braid, is it necessary to have it sort of tight? Just kidding!
Saisha: Sorry! I really like tight hair, guys, and I know that Ren has actually complained about it when I have done her hairs in the past. She has a really sensitive scalp and I just like really tight hair.
Ren: They are going to be neat.
Saisha: Yeah! No, it doesn't have to be that tight but I think if you want this to be, let's say, a night-time look, I think it would look better. Tight, just to give it more of a polished chic look. For daytime, definitely like if you are going outside or just hanging out with friends, the messy look is actually cute and depending on what you are wearing as well that could really look cute.
Ren: How long does this take you usually?
Saisha: Usually it takes me about ten minutes. So it's really fast so if you look that, you are on the -- or you want to do something with your hair different, it's really a cute look, and people take notice of it as well.
Ren: So Lauren Conrad from 'The Hills' has pretty much started this look.
Saisha: And that's where I saw it being -- I love those shows. I love 'The Hills', I love 'The City'.
Ren: You love those teenybopper shows.
Saisha: I can't help it. I am a teenybopper heart.
Ren: And I make fun of her all the time that --
Saisha: I try to get Ren into it.
Ren: I don't like Heidi and I don't like Spidey. I don't like them.
Saisha: But you get really good, I think, hair tips and just a few ideas from them. So as you guys can see I am gathering my final amount of hair and just braiding the rest of it. Ren has really pretty hair, so it's really easy to do and if you have highlights as well, I notice that this look really pops because if you notice and Ren, if you can kind of tilt your head, you will see that the highlights, you can really see the colors in the braid which looks really pretty.
Ren: I know it's that and sometimes in the stores, they have the fake braid out there. Have you seen those?
Saisha: Yeah, I have.
Ren: That's not cute though.
Saisha: No, no.
Ren: This looks way better.
Saisha: This is all natural. Okay, so I have finished braiding and what I'll do is I'll have the braid stop at the top of the ear right behind so that I can go ahead and take a bobby pin and easily disguise it. So I am just going to clip it to the scalp.
Ren: So you are doing that with more than one bobby pin?
Saisha: Yeah, I am actually going to go to do two and I love to do the crisscross look. It just looks nice, especially with the bobby pins end up showing. Okay, so the braid is done and if you have like -- Ren she is growing out her bangs. So if you have any flyaways, I strongly suggest just getting some hair spray to hold it down and there is no problem at all.
Ren: And it lays kind of flat.
Saisha: Right and even with the gel that you put on before the smoothing gel, that's actually going to help it lay down. So we are going to take the hair out and you know how pretty. Ren is already beautiful, so not much work. So this is more, I guess, the beachy look if you look. It reminds me kind of Jennifer Aniston. I don't know if you guys recently saw the Oscars where she had this hairstyle. So her hair kind of always has a little bit of a wave to it.
