Welcome to Common Man Cocktails. I’m your host, Derrick Schommer and today we’re going to create the lava lamp. This was a lava lamp submission by Chris who submitted a couple in the past so this isn’t the first. It’s going to have Malibu. It’s going to have Captain Morgan’s Private Stock because that’s what I got or spiced rum typically Captain Morgan’s spice or whatever the regular one is or whatever you want to use spice rum, a little Rose’s Grenadine to make the lamp.
I haven’t made this yet so I could look like a fool. Chris has it worked so I’m going to hope you tried it. So we’ll also going to use a little pineapple juice and apparently when this is all set and done, you’re going to throw that glass right here and it’s going to end up looking like a lava lamp like I’m going to guess there are some lampish lava stuff going on whatever that is and we’re going to shake it so I got my shaker over here. I also wanted to mention since I probably was — the argument was the spirit of the month should have been last week probably true because that was last month. We’re in 2010 now, so for the end of 2009, it doesn’t sound right. I like 2010 but in 2009, G’Vine — now to stir for G’Vines, you’ve got your standard, this is called a — and this is more of your London dry.
However, this one is the Floraison, there’s a floral. I haven’t use that much on the show lately but I’ve been using a lot off show, off air and people have said, if you’re spirited much you’ll do something I like, something we like, something people like, they don’t have to be things we use all the time in the show. You just want to know what I think is good. I think this is good. It’s really — I think you’re going to look at it like $50.00 for the G’Vine gin but there’s a reason. It’s got this nice floral note and it’s something I think that most gin drinkers who like the taste. And then they try this and they’re like wow, it’s not necessarily better or worst, it’s just different and it’s got a different flavor to it. So never had anybody say anything about it and let’s just say that and a lot of people are like, “Wow, I didn’t expect that. It’s different.” So check it out if you can find some G’Vine. This is yet to be opened. I didn’t know I had this. I must have bought it when I knew I was running low, it was downstairs. So we’ve got our freshly opened Private Stock. Two ounces, two and a half ounces of pineapple juice and we’re going to do an ounce of the Private Stock or an ounce of spice rum and we’re not going to put it in so it will actually finish building the drink. We’re going to do an ounce of coconut.
I think Chris was a big fan of coconut, everything is coconut. Coconut rum is tasty so it’s kind of a tropical drink I would think. A tropical lava lamp and now we’ll do two and a half ounces of the pineapple juice, there are two and there’s a half so you get that definite tropical appeal pineapple juice and then taste it. Pineapple and coconut never go wrong. Shake that up. Throw some ice in here and now you could use frosted glasses like this but it’s a lava lamp so I’m going to guess you’re going to want to see the lava unless it doesn’t work and then you’re going to see me go — so pour that in there, very — looks like a big old banana. I’ll use a couple of drops so what I could do just to make it easier to drop since these pour — kind of messy. See, it’s already making a mess. You really need to come up with a better design for that. Just drops in this and then I usually go way overboard on purpose because I like to. Let me know when it starts to look like a lava lamp.
I guess it kind of looks like a lava lamp for a few seconds as it starts to rain down the sides and then it sits at that bottom like tequila sunrise. Actually, a lot of it floats which is kind of different. Normally, that stuff just go straight to the bottom. So you still have on the top of that, the suds just like soap. The head foam, there are still some red coolness going on there. It smells like pineapple coconut which is your perfect frothy cocktail. And as you can imagine, sweet coconut, pineapple, spice — there’s probably some spicy — make it side by side with a none spiced rum like a standard rum. I used that right? Probably. It taste like I really didn’t. Maybe dump a little extra in there. So there you go. That’s the lava lamp.
