Now we are going to talk about leading at second base. First thing you do as soon as you get the second base before the pitcher gets on the rubber, is you turn around and you look at all the out-fielders and in-fielders. You want to get a sense of where they are. So if the ball is hit, can you go or do you have to wait? Is it right at someone or is it in a gap?
So you want to try and get us perspective of where the player are fielding and what you are positioned and what you might be able to get out of their position based on the contact that you see?
We have a couple of different types of leads. If there are zero or one out, we take one step behind the base and then we take our normal lead which is left, right, and then we take two slides. You are a little bit further off than you are if you were at first pace and thats what our account full lead right there. Lets come back, do it again. Step on the base, check the out-fielders, make sure you know where they are, always with your foot on the base, OK? Put your steps on the rubber, you are going to take your lead, left, right, two slides, one, two, and hands at the middle, weight evenly distributed, feet underneath your shoulders, right there and thats how we take our leads at second base.
