Welcome to watchMojo.com I am David. Today, I am going to be presenting to you the International Eureka Technology and Science Festival. We are going to take a look at some of the latest tech-toys. Some of the technologies we used in our everyday lives, as well as some technology you did not even know existed.
I am here at the Bomb Squad. We are looking at a couple of robots that are used to disarm bombs either inside the buildings, outside the buildings, in different scenarios. This one is the newer of the two that we are going to look at by a company named Vanguard. It is called the MK-2. This one works of 2.4 gigahertz signal. It seems use on your wireless telephone. This can be used inside of a building and the signal will not be cut. So they can command this robot to do whatever they like from outside the building which is very advantageous for them obviously.
Basically, this robot has two functions. First of all, it is put with three cameras, one on the front, one on the arm, and one up here. Not only does this robot use to take the arm and disassemble the bomb, it is also used to take pictures. So if ever there is a hostage situation and they want to enter the building without harming any of their policemen, they will send this in. Take appropriate pictures to find out the location of the criminals.
This is the older of the two robots used for dismantling bombs. This is called the R-2. This one is about 15 years old while the other one is only about is two years old. This one also has cameras on it as you can see in the front there. Although this one cannot go upstairs very well because its track system is simply parallel. The other one with its triangular track system can go upstairs.
This one is a little bigger. This one is used in situations where they need something with a little bit more force, so if it has to open the door, knock something down. This one is a little bit more useful because it has more torque and more power.
I am here with a Med-Eng’s Bomb Suit obviously used for the dismantling of a bomb. When it is too difficult to do it with a robot, basically this has special Kevlar coating. It also has a metal plate in the front. And it is also heat resistant. Unfortunately, this suit weighs over a hundred of pounds. It is used to go into the building, dismantle the bomb, and get the hell out.
