thanks so much for information! I ( and the vet) keep looking for the answers why my 7 year old dog has bold itchy spots all over her body.

If the demodex mites in humans are any indication, it can become pathological very quickly. It is intensely itchy due to the egg-laying activity while they are down inside the follicle during the day, and if they are exposed to any "killing" agent(like flea and tick shampoo), they will try to use their sharp mouth parts to drive deeper into the body to escape. The best time to do a skin scraping is at night, when the animals are up on the surface to mate. I know all this because I am fighting the worst disease in my own life.

Hello, I’m Dr. Mike. Demodectic mange, also referred to simply as Demodex, is a common mite found in dogs. Usually this mite is not a problem, however, in puppies or adult dogs with a compromised immune system, these mites can cause a variety of skin problems.
