This is a story about a first date. It's a story about Archie and Mary. Archie has the same problem that many guys do. He wants to take Mary on a date, but doesn't know the proper way to ask, where to go, or how to act. Well Archie, today is your lucky day.
When asking for a date, the first things to think about is timing. It's courteous to extend invitations as far in advance as possible. A day or two is okay for casual dates, but be aware that last minute's invitations maybe perceived as insults. A week to two weeks is the norm for semi to formal occasions.
Archie: Hi, Mary, it's Archie Griffith.
Mary: Hello, Archie.
When making a date, be clear about details, time, place, activity and transportation.
Archie: See, Mary, you wouldn't want to go to the sock up on Saturday, would you? My dad said I can borrow the car and I can pick you up at seven.
Mary: Well, yes, I'd like that very much.
When being asked on a date for the first time, be considerate. Don't expect in to finance and expensive evening.
Archie: Alright. I''ll call for you then.
Mary: Alright. See you then.
Archie: Goodbye, Mary.
Mary: Goodbye, Archie.
Archie: Son of a gun. I can't believe we are to the sock up together.
Arrive on time if you are picking up a date, and be ready to go if you're being picked up. Making a date hang around so you can stay at the entrance is rude. Go to the door and greet your date. Don't embarrass yourself by honking the horn or yelling for your date to come out. It's a nice gesture to bring a gift for the date. However, not necessary.
Archie: Hey Mary!
Mary: Hi Archie!
Archie: I got you something.
Mary: Oh, a sock up.
The gentleman should always open a car door for a lady. Now you may not have told that this would have been the place for a date, but it looks like it could be fun.
Mary: Come on in.
Social activities are a great way to get acquainted without putting too much pressure on you or your date, plenty to do, plenty of people to talk to.
Mary: Come on Archie. They are starting on the round of twister.
Walking your date to the door at the end of the evening is an act of decency, respect and safety, so it never goes out of style.
Archie: Say Mary, I need to ask. Did you really have a good time tonight?
Mary: Oh yes, it was thrill.
Archie: There's a Winnie Rose next Friday.
Mary: I love Winnie Rose, and I would really enjoy going to one with you.
Archie: So, it's okay then?
Mary: Yes, Archie, it's a date.
Archie: Great.
