Rob Southerland: Once you accepted in the pilot training, it's a very rigorous process. You have to go through one aircraft, the T-37 or the T-6 now the Air force has. That's the initial phase of the pilot training and that's approximately first six months of pilot training. First six comprised of academics, weekly testing, stand ups, which include emergency procedures and also the flying phase and insinuator phase. As far as the initial call process in the T-37, you have four check rides you have to do. So with each one of those check rides is intense study.

A Checkride is basically a final exam to ensure to the evaluator that you have learnt, which you need to learn to pass that phase of flight and be ready to move on to the next phase. Now, it helps for people who have prior flying experience but it's not impossible for someone, who doesn't have a whole lot of flying experience to accomplish it. So just like anything else, you want to give yourself as much as when age is possible. Study and know what you are getting yourself into and know the ramifications and then also know the rewards.
