Learn About Headphones and Beat Matching
On behalf of TvLesson.com, my name is Eric Roman otherwise known as DJ Empire.
Let’s talk about how to beat match with headphones; beat matching with headphones is essentially is the essential part of any DJ, that’s what you’re paid to do. What you do need is a pair of headphones, high quality headphones. In this case I use this. A turn table, a record player whatever it may be your media and your songs. One song is being played out loud through the sound system and the other song gets played through your headphones. Now you have to listen to both songs at the same time and adjust the speed or pitch or both of the song to make them match up. Maybe one song is too slow of the other song is too fast, that you have to find the middle ground to put the music together and then you bring up volume on the song in the headphones as you are also preparing to bring down the volume of the song that’s being played through the sound system. If you’re done this correctly, your audience will not know what’s going on they’ll just think it’s one continuous song and that’s what a DJ is supposed to do, it is to match perfectly and let the song right out as best as possible at the same time without changing the mood or tempo.
The equipment that would be needed are high-end headphones, the better the quality, the better response you’re going to get and the easier you’ll have differentiating between the sound system outside of your head and the sound system on your head.
Another good thing to have is a monitor. A speaker that would be near you, in front of you, behind you, alongside you so can have the audio closer opposed to having to listen to the entire sound system of the night club.
So in closing, beat matching with your headphones is simply listening to two songs together and making sure that they’re being played at the same speed. This has been DJ Empire, thanks for watching.
