Sarah: Hi, I am Sarah.
Justin: And I am Justin.
Sarah: We are here to tell you about New Year’s traditions.
Justin: There are many traditions and the beautiful thing about New Years is you should create your own tradition and make it your own.
Sarah: We have been throwing New Years parties in our house for almost five years now.
Justin: And every year, we like to make it different, but we always bring our friends and each year, it gets bigger and bigger because we have a lot of friends. We have a lot of fun. Let us show you some of the ways we have that fun.
Sarah: Well, there is always the party hat, “Happy New Year!” And we usually have party poppers which is confetti. We throw that around like crazy.
Justin: It is a lot of fun. Other things I like to do is wear my party sunglasses.
Sarah: I do not have those, but he does and they are pretty amazing.
Justin: Let me get a pair.
Sarah: Okay.
Justin: Every year, it is different.
Sarah: Show them what you play.
Justin: Well, music is always a big part of every New Year’s tradition. So, that is why I brought my base recorder.
Sarah: It is usually really good.
Justin: And sometimes, if you know the tune, which I do not, you play Auld Lang Syne because it is about old friends, which for best friends.
Sarah: In our house, we like to keep our Christmas tree up through the New Year holiday.
Justin: We also, like everybody, like to have champagne right before the countdown and also after. Is not there another tradition on other places around the world?
Sarah: I know that some people like to jump in the air right at the stroke of midnight so that they are in the air and it is for good luck. I do not know, I do not do that.
Justin: I have never done that in our five years.
Sarah: In our five years, no. I do know that in Spain and in parts of Latin America, you are required to eat 12 grapes before midnight and make all of your wishes and they will come true if swallowed your grapes. And in this country, and I am sure in many others too, there is always the kiss.
Justin: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, …
Sarah: Happy New Year!
Justin: Well, we will see you next year. Have a great one.
